I had lost count on how many doors my fists had knocked on.

Too many, was probably the right answer. I was getting sick of hearing my own voice, which was never a good sign. But yet here I was, feet (aching from hours of walking) carry me up the next driveway. Preparing myself I pull my shoulders back, a prize winning smile hooking back the corners of my lips.

Why should you vote for me? I practice the speech in my head, cause- well- why the hell not???

Fuck.

I was never going to win this race if I couldn't even articulate words in a way that had people wanting to hear more. Why was I running? I demand to myself, in an attempt to re-centre my thoughts. Because I want to help better the community. Snore. Everyone wanted to help the god damn community. I needed something bigger. I want to help families with single parents. I want to help children with disabilities, help them get the education that they deserved, that my own children deserved. They were already at a disadvantage in a world that didn't support them. Better. Something worth fighting for. Something personal

I got this.

Knuckles rap again the wooden door, "good afternoon sir, I'm Archibald Sartorius- one of your candidates running for Mayor. I was wandering in you wanted to help make district Ten better."

It's time for the elections, and all I want is for people to leave me alone. Just stay out of my way, and let me live my life how I want to. So many people have been around telling me who to vote for. No, it doesn't work that way. I will vote for who I want to regardless of what anyone says. That's the joys of being my own person. Even my own family can't tell me what to do anymore. I will listen to speeches and listen to debates and figure out who I think will be best suited to be mayor of district ten. I've been doing that too, and I still don't know who will do the best job. But when I hear a knock at the door, I can't help but groan in disgust. People just need to leave me alone.

Yet I do and answer the door, and I find myself standing face to face with one of the candidates, and he's asking me if I want to help make district ten great, and of course I do. I want this place to be better. I just don't know if he has the answer for it. I'll hear him out. I'll see what he has to say because maybe it'll help a lot. I fold my arms across my chest. I'll hear what he has to say, and maybe he can sway me. "Yeah, what to you got in mind?"

The door opens to a man with arms folded across his chest. It seems like my greeting has done the trick, sparked interest. "Thanks for hearing me out, mate," I smile, nervously shoving my hands into my pockets. I had practiced, I knew my points, just needed to put them into words, words that aciculate well and come across as appealing.

"You're a young lad, right? Can't have left school that long ago. Were you satisfied with the level of education available to you?" Pulling my hands from my pocket I pull out a picture of my three sons; Lucas, Kelvin and Ryan. Lucas smiles at the camera, Kelvin pulling at Ryans cheeks to make 'stretch' his smile. I remember the day this photo was taken. A few months after my declaration to become sober, to pick up the pieces of my life that Arwen had left behind.

"These three kids are my sons. Each one of them has some form of impairment, and the education system the district currently has, doesn't matter to them all that well. That would be one of the issues I wish to improve on. Making sure that everyone has an equal chance at an education."

"I haven't left school just yet. I want to though. Big election coming up. Big whoop." I don't want to outright dismiss this guy out of respect for his sons, but I already wan't to shut the door in his face. Feels like his goal is too big to achieve. "Everyone having a chance at education for all? Big goal there bub. It'll be all too easy to fail there." I'm very close to shutting the door in his face. I'll give him one more chance to convince me what else he might be able to do or I'm out. For his sake, I hope his pitching gets better. "What other plans do you have in mind? If equal chance at education is all you got, I'm afraid for your campaign."

Whoops. Backtracking I grin at him, "ah, my mistake"

"If equal chance at education is all you got, I'm afraid for your campaign."

A punch to the gut. Ouch. I knew that it was a big task- maybe even too big. But I would have five years to get it started, maybe not to even it out as such, but to give opportunities to those who need it. I would open a school, I think. Yes, a school for the disabled, with teachers who knew how too work with kids with needs. The idea seemed daunting when you put it down like that, but then my kids smiles, and eyes full of eagerness fishes before me.

I would give it a good hot crack.

"Sure, its a long shot, but it's something I'm passionate about. But that's okay, if they died isn't for you, what about helping support the single parents? And funding for orphanages and Forster homes. I believe that its very important to show the community that we care about each and every one of you."
