Duke is playing the piano, she can hear the soft steps of the keys creeping towards a major third. Somehow his soft song is sweeter than all the calculative charts and the shifting slogans that clutter the corners of her office. Any other day, she would slip into the hall to stand silently in his shadow simply swaying to the sound. Prism used to love music, his guitar was one of the only things Diamond could never bring herself to break apart from. He would have loved watching Duke learn, watching his nephew find flowering fascination in the same field that once was an outlet for him. Diamond would have simply settled for her brother being able to meet her son. She blinks away the battle she has with the past and returns herself to reality.
"This all looks great, thank you Penelope for everything. You've really stepped up."
Diamond's assistant smiles softly at the praise before picking her way through a nearby calendar. It's true though, without the young girl full of fire, Diamond isn't sure she could keep up with campaigning and running the company.
"Is everything still in order for my visit to Mayor Spark's today?"
Diamond asks and Penelope nods affirmatively. Diamond pulls a grey woolen coat over her shoulders while settling her hair in a nearby meeting.
"Great. I'm off then."
The sun shifting onto Diamond's skin brings a soft smile to her face as she strolls down the streets of Factory row. Even as Autumn begins to ebb into Summer's end, Diamond shares a softness for the sunlight. It warms her bones which have slowly begun to ache from the tests of time. It feels like forever ago that she wandered along these rough roads to find her Father at one of the factories. Diamond can't quite admit that she misses him, but she does miss the home and her family filling the walls. She makes a mental note to refill her prescription tonight, a lot of memories have been bubbling up in her over the past weeks.
As expected, the Mayor's office is engulfed in the same sense of speed as Diamond's. Truly campaign season leaves no corner untouched. In fact, it makes Diamond grateful that she isn't the only one experiencing the madness of the media. She slips through the people punching numbers and printing posters until she reaches the actual door to Catherine Spark's office. Diamond can feel her heart beat racing, but she breathes calmly as she knocks on the door.
"Hi, Mayor Spark? Thank you for taking the time to see me today. I know you're very busy."
note: touch on the longer side, apologies. Will keep shorter from here on out!
