As I strode onto the stage, I wore a pretty, navy blue gown that reached just below my knees and swayed as I walked. I made my way to the microphone, smiling and waving to the gathered people as I did. Upon reaching the microphone, I waited for the crowd to calm down a bit before I began speaking, so that I could ensure that I would be heard.
Catherine Spark was a name already well-known in District Three, as I'd been the mayor for five years now, but now was a time that I still saw fit to introduce myself.
"My name is Catherine Spark. I'd like to thank those of you who've decided to come out today to hear me speak. Every last one of you is greatly appreciated," I said.
"Now," I began. "Last election, I told you all that I wanted to lend a hand: to assist those that need it, and especially those who have lost those that they love. Now, more than ever, that is truly what I wish to do for you all."
I looked out at the crowd with kindness in her eyes. They were anticipating what I had to say, and I planned to please them with the outcome. It had taken me quite some time to figure out exactly what I was going to say in my speech. It took a lot of thinking, coming up with new ideas, scrapping them and repeating the process until I found what was right. I decided to stick with my platform from before: helping those who need it, and building a true community.
"I want to build a real, true community for the people here in District Three. I want to bring us all together. I want us to get to know one another and truly care for each and every person we meet, even if we don't really know them very well. That's something that's very important to me."
Everything I said, I meant, and I was very passionate about every word I was saying to the people.
"I plan to bring us together as a community in many different ways. One of those ways is by hosting events in the District for all to attend. Carnivals. Live music nights. All sorts of fun things that we can do together! I truly feel that something like this will help us all bond as a District."
Now was the time to bring in my other idea, too.
"Now, I always want to present some help for the District's citizens who have gone through similar things to myself. For those of us who have lost loved ones to the Hunger Games, I want to support you. I want to present the idea for a program to help those who need it. I want to create a safe and fun environment for those who may need a few extra friends and a bit more love."
That was when I started to wrap things up, as I was nearing the end of my speech.
"I truly hope that the words I have spoken to you all today have some meaning to you, and that you will keep them in mind when making your decision for this year's mayor election." I told them this with a smile. "Thank you all for being here today, and have an amazing rest of your day."
