Marc, in regards to the speech he had to prepare, understood the purpose, but sort-of dreaded it when it really came down to it. He was okay with public speaking, yes. He'd never had a problem with it before. It was just that now, he actually had to impress the people he was talking to, and often, people seemed like they didn't even want to listen to what he had to say. This time, he had to make sure that people would listen. That's why he spent so much time on this speech: to get it just right, and to make the people listen to what he had to say.
Approaching the microphone, he greeted the people who were gathered there to hear him speak. There were some enthusiastic faces in the crowd, as well as some not-so-excited ones.
"Welcome, everyone! Thank you all for gathering here today. Your attendance is greatly appreciated." Then, he introduced himself. "My name is Marcasite Obsidian, and I'm running for mayor this year."
He took a breath.
"Some of you may have already decided who you're going to vote for, but if you haven't decided on me, well, that's why I'm here today, standing in front of you all. I'm determined to win this election so that you can have someone you're comfortable with and who you trust in office as mayor." He paused for a moment to look at who was in the crowd. He saw his father standing among the people, smiling. His father had lost the election when he ran during the last one. Now, here he was, supporting his son.
"I want to explain to you all how I'm going to make our District the place anyone in all of the Districts of Panem would most want to live," he explained. "I want to give everyone the opportunities they dream of. I want those who want to learn trades or to have more schooling to be able to do those things. I want those who have the desire to train as a career to be able to. I want those who want to bond with their community more to be able to do so."
"I want everyone in this District to be happy, healthy, and doing what they want to do. I want to make more jobs available for the people, and provide better living conditions for those who aren't in the best of places right now. I want to help each and every one of you." As he explained what he had in mind, he got more and more enthusiastic and excited about it.
"That's what I'm going to do for this District. Thank you, District Two!"
As he thanked the crowd, he smiled and waved to them. All the while, they applauded.
