O P A L
The school tournament had finished a few days ago. Katelyn’s victory was still fresh in her mind. It was shown around the entire school, talked about by classes from every year. Katelyn had an impressive amount of brutal strength, capable of blowing aside anyone in her way with little difficulty. Opal had noticed that her ability to power through often lead to a one-track mind. Sometimes she tended not to think too much about strategy, swept away with an efficient display of power.
Katelyn’s promise sat in her mind as she hopped off her bus, thanking the driver before heading into the city.
Today is the day.
Officially, it’s their first date and Opal is beyond nervous. She fidgeted with the hem of her shirt as she walked over to the spot at the train station, she had agreed to meet Katelyn at. Her stomach was rolling, knots spinning and twisting, and she felt like she was going to be sick. She hadn’t even felt this nervous on her first day at UA. But a date? A date with Katelyn?
What was she doing? Her focus was supposed to be solely on her training. The internship that had gained her entry into the academy was totally reliant on her performance and grades. If she messed any of those up, she didn’t know if Recovery Girl would keep her around. That could just be her own insecurities talking though. She was excellent at what she did. There weren’t many quirks that allowed for such rapid and extensive healing, it was invaluable.
She’d be fine, right? It was just a date, just some fun with Katelyn. Nothing to stress about. Nothing. At all.
Her finger found its way to her mouth, and she bit at the nail, gaze circulating around the crowd as she reached the bench they’d agreed to meet at. She was early; she was always early. It had been drilled into her head since she was a child that on time was late. And if you were late don’t show up -her parent's punishment promised that staying away was the better option.
Taking a seat, she placed a hand on her jeans. She’d tried to dress cute, but practical. Jeans and boots were always a good combination. The shirt she wore was comfy and she’d finished the outfit off with a few cold bracelets and some cute earrings. She didn’t wear makeup, and her hair rested around her shoulders, a fan of wearing it down.
“Katelyn,” she exclaimed, standing up quickly as she spotted the tall blonde weaving her way through the crowd. The pain in her stomach only increased, nerves spiking as she was suddenly standing face to face with her crush. Her date.
“Ah, good to see you,” she rubbed the back of her neck, resisting the urge to bite her nail as she smiled at Katelyn. “You excited for today?”
What was she doing? She had no idea.
