She hated these events before her pregnancy, but now she despises public outings and parties even more. With how much she's showing now, people stare at her, more than they used to. She is well accustomed to being gawked at, but not like this. Jacinta is tired of being badgered with questions by curious Capiolites โ what the baby's name will be, what gender, whose last name they will take, if she thinks they will grow up and win the Games someday like their parents.
And the worst part? She can't even drink to get herself through these events anymore.
Really, Jacinta doesn't see the point in attending parties now that both District Seven tributes are dead. This place is full of potential sponsors, but she has no reason to speak to them now, no tribute to keep afloat.
Jacinta and Mackenzie enter together, with her arm looped in his. They are almost immediately approached by some of the party goers, from designers to escorts to socialites. She manages to smile through the small talk, but rolls her eyes as soon as the Capitolites walk away.
She and Mackenzie have some time to themselves, drinking from the various glasses offered by the servers. Jacinta sips on raspberry flavored water wishing it was champagne and promises herself that she'll buy herself a nice bottle of wine once this pregnancy is done.
Just as she begins to think that maybe this night won't be so bad, she sees she sees Justice Fray stumble drunkenly through the crowd towards her and Mackenzie. Her heart flutters nervously in her chest; it is no secret that Justice is far from Mackenzie's favorite person. Ever since the pre-Games of the 80th, when she brought Justice back to District Seven's floor of the Training Center, Mackenzie has harbored a deep dislike for him. She isn't sure what Mackenzie heard that night โ she doubts those walls are very soundproof โ but she does know the next morning, he found Justice sitting at the dining room table, naked except for Jacinta's robe (which was much too short for him) and drinking coffee.
It didn't end there. She and Justice continued to sleep together on and off for years, until the 84th when she and Mackenzie became more consistent.
Jacinta doesn't know what Justice wants, but if she can head off a confrontation between the two of them, she will.
"We should โ we should go over there," urges Jacinta, nodding to the buffet table. She tries to lead Mackenzie away before he sees Justice.
