Avaris shows up fashionably late.
But it isn’t his fault, really — it just took some precious minutes to make his lips all cherry-pink and some precious minutes to slick his hair back with thick, fragrant oil and some more precious minutes to pick out the right raiment for combat and before he knows it, all those precious minutes have shockingly! added up to a half an hour.
But, who cares?
The spring in his lithe steps as he saunters in makes it known that he clearly doesn’t. No show can open its red curtains if it’s star was missing and Avaris is on every advertising poster. He has made sure of that.
“Heyyy!” He looks up from his trimmed nails at Judith and the gathered crowd with a glimmer in his eyes and that trademark Avaris Hill smile that doesn’t betray the unease he feels at the sight of her. “My apologizes for a tin-eey bit late, everyone! It's just, perfect ...” he sighs, “isn't easy,” and then laughs.
If Avaris was given the chance to choose his opponent, Judith would be at the very bottom of his list. Labeled as butterfly girl, Judith Lancer’s fish out of the water reputation is renowned and so is her love for beautifully-winged creatures. Strange she is, and as Avaris reaches for a nearby sword, he hopes she’s strange enough to let him win. Why wouldn’t she, anyway? Avaris’ presence is a beautiful fish-net cast to catch special favors.
He has made sure of that, too.
“Okay, cute, um, so here's two ground rules for us to follow. First rule: not the face, okay?” He gestures at his most prized possession: his face. Not the face, never the face. “And second rule: let’s have fun together!” He springs onward dramatically, forces kindness into his perfect smile, “it’s just a fun match between two dear friends, nothing personal,” and hopes Judith trips on her shoelaces as he brings the tip of his sword up at her in a skyward arc.
The sword digs deep and Avaris' smile widens. “Oops!”
