O P A L
Another year fades, disappearing beneath her as she tries to keep up. The wound on her hand has slowly pieced itself back together. After a few setbacks, gathered from blossoming bruises and energetic children that aim to hurt. The number of times they’d sought out her weakness and driven their weapon into the space between her pinky and middle finger was astronomical. Through the pain she had nothing but admiration for their ability to quickly think of the best way to attack; find a weakness, expose it and use it.
It would hopefully keep them alive.
The train had departed from district eleven about half an hour ago. Opal wandered through-out the district, having managed to dodge and avoid the cameras that had been dumped here with her. She had split from Ky pretty quickly; she was sure he wanted to explore and sure that he wanted time by himself. It was the first time the Capitol had let her bring him with her to see Potato’s grave.
It’d make a nice TV special they said.
She couldn’t complain, trapped within her need to keep coming back but tied to the fact that she relied on that crew to be allowed to come. She loved district eleven, she loved the fresh air, the rolling hills and the peace that seemed to flow within the streets. The world felt a little more friendly here, like they weren’t waiting to slit your throat just to prove themselves.
Another turn later and she was in the Victor’s Village of District Eleven. Identical houses to the ones she lived in, except here it seemed more vibrant and filled with life. Back in one it was just her, Justice’s house a chaotic mess. Topaz and Peridot didn’t exist, and Ridley was too young to have yet built her freedom within the village.
Spotting Katelyn’s house wasn’t that difficult. The garden was cared for, and the smell of fresh baked goods wafted through the air as she walked up the paved path. Opal wrung her hands nervously in front of her, wincing slightly at the pressure it placed on her severed finger.
She hadn’t known if she’d see Katelyn again before the next games, but once the council had been elected (it terrified her) the border restrictions had loosened. Two phone calls later she was in her room packing a bag for the trip.
She reached forwards, a hand knocking on the door as a smile pulled itself over her lips. Her heart fluttered a little faster in her chest.
She really wanted a tight lingering hug from her girlfriend.
It would hopefully keep them alive.
