"So this is what it feels like to have a broken rib or two..." My breath hitches with every step I take, yet my hand never leaves my side, just under my pectorals. The guy that hit me continued his barrage of punches over me until I was in enough pain to retreat and take Sorrel with me. It helps to keep the pressure on the rib, but I just wanted to stop running. Sorrel didn't deserve to be here and noticing the bruises that appeared on her skin angered me. "They will pay... one way or another." I mutter.
Everything about this arena, at first I was stunned, but now that I've been able to see it for what it really was, only told me that we would only survive by sheer willpower and strategy. We needed to keep warm and collect wood. We needed heat in order to survive but that would be nearly impossible considering the amount of snow here.
"Sorrel, let's stop here. For a moment. I don't think anyone is following us." I look back, confirming what I just told her and was thankful for the coat that I had grabbed before leaving the starting point. That and the other items that I retrieved moments before leaving. I remembered having a pair of socks and those would come in quite handy at this moment.
"Are you hurt or anything?" I questioned her. I know that I wasn't around her much at the start and it bothered me that it took long enough to escape but I was relieved that we are both in manageable conditions, or so it seems. Somehow, I managed to come to a sitting position upon the solid surface of... ice? What is this? I place my hand against the surface feeling the frigid temperature. The beautiful reflection hazy a bit, but clear nonetheless.
"It's so quiet." I stated before placing a hand back at my chest, feeling the strain against the broken bone and losing my breath for a moment before catching a glimpse of something off to the right of us. A dark shadow, speckled with white as I looked to the muzzle and the piercing eyes that hid in the snow not far from us. "We've got company."
I place my hand out, palm side up, in order to make a kissing noise. It goes against all my better judgements, but maybe the pain was blocking my brain's attempt at communication with my heart.
"Hey buddy? Are you friendly? Do you want to come over?"
