I'd caught and killed a rabbit as night began to fall. As it finally got dark, I settled down on my sled, cuddled up with Ren, my newly acquired wolf friend. She was quite cozy to sleep on, with my head rested upon her fur. It was nice to have a non-human companion by my side. I hated most humans, after all. Then again, a lot of animals didn't get on well with me, either. This one was just one of the few that did.

No cannons sounded on the first day in the arena. Who knew what that meant for the second day. Obviously, the Gamemakers weren't going to be very happy about this. Not a single face shown in the sky that night, which just confirmed the lack of deaths on the first day.

As sunrise came, I rose from my sled. I traveled with my sled and my wolf, eventually arriving in another area of the arena. I could've gone further, but this seemed like the right place to stop. Most would find this part of the arena to be off-putting or unsettling, but it was likely the closest thing to a forest in here, so it felt like the closest thing to home for me. Being in a place that was similar to what I was used to might work to my advantage.

I trudged through the snow as I went. I was never one to be very respectful of my surroundings, though, and this turned out to come back to bite me. As I stepped, I happened to place my foot in just the wrong spot to get attacked by something that had been sleeping beneath the snow. Actually, there were two somethings beneath the snow, but only one of them attacked me, as it seemed more agitated than its sibling. Or friend. Or lover. Whatever they were. It didn't matter to me.

The snow white fur on the small creatures was an obvious reason as to why I hadn't noticed them at first. When one managed to jump (or perhaps quickly climb) up me, it dug its teeth into my shoulder. I shook it off and clenched my jaw. I was ready for this fight. It was my first fight of the arena, and although these creatures were small and relatively weak, perhaps I could get something enjoyable out of this.

I raised my pickaxe and swung it at the fuzzy thing that had sunk its teeth into me.

Time to kill.

The little creature wasn't happy as my axe bit into its shoulder like its teeth had bit into mine just a moment before. The snow was now stained with blood, and the crimson color of it set my teeth on edge. I loved the look of blood. I loved the color and the way it splattered. I even loved the smell of blood.

A wide grin spread across my face when I saw the blood. This was what I had been needing.

The little creature that had attacked me before now pounced at me again, but I blocked its attempt with my axe, throwing it out of the way and back into the snow. I wasn't about to be killed by this little thing. No, I was going to kill it instead.

"What do you think you're doing, little one?" I taunted it. "Did you really think you could kill me?"

I let out a slight laugh and readied my weapon again. I hoped my family and the rest of the people in District Seven who knew me were watching this. They always thought I was crazy, and this would just confirm it all for them. I'd never been sane, but that didn't bother me. I was born a weirdo, and I'd always be one until the day I died, no matter how soon or far away that may be.

I wasn't sane. I never planned on being sane. Insane was much more fun.

I wondered what my mother thought of all of this. She was the one who was most emotional about me volunteering, probably followed by Tess. Were they happy to see that I was still alive? What did Galley think? Had she found my knife yet? Maybe if she found it, my fighting would be inspiration for her to try out the knife herself.

My pickaxe swung in the direction of the little creature again. I was going for the kill yet again, and I was determined.

I killed the first little fluff ball with my pickaxe, digging it right into its back, but doing so seemed to have angered the second one who, at first, had been quite peaceful toward me. It was clearly not happy with me, as it pounced at me, but completely missed. It soared through the air past me, and I quickly turned around to face it again.

A broad grin spread across my face and I knew what this meant for me. I'd finally made a kill, and, despite it not being a tribute kill, it made me feel good. I didn't have to hide the fact that I'd killed something this time. I didn't have to do it in secret because I 'wasn't allowed to' or whatever. No, I could kill in broad daylight, televised for all of Panem to see, and it was glorious.

"You're an angry little ball of fur, aren't ya?" I laughed.

Ready to kill the second one, I still had my weapon at the ready. This thing was fluffy and angry, but that wouldn't stop me from killing it. Wielding my glass pickaxe, I decided to taunt the thing a bit more before striking again.

"Are you mad at me?" I asked it. "Are you mad at me because I killed your little friend?"

The grin I'd had before was still so prominent on my face. I wanted this thing to be mad at me. That would just make the situation that much more entertaining and enjoyable for me. I loved having something to kill that would actually put up a little bit of a fight. Otherwise, things could get a little bit boring from time to time.

I swung my weapon again, ready to connect with my furry foe's flesh.
