hi fams! so, one thing i've noticed as we've gone through quite a few games on this here site of ours is that every now and then, tributes sometimes fly under the radar when it comes to getting recognized or complimented, which is a damn shame since everyone on this site writes iconic stuff with their chars and deserves a spotlight to have their writing noticed! bc idk about you all, but it personally makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside whenever i see someone pointing out something about my writing that they like, and i figured that these games I'd return the favor a bit! so, with that being said, at the end of every games day i've decided that i'll be reading through each and every tribute that posted that day, picking out one section and/or quote that i personally loved and/or enjoyed, and gathering it here as a sort of recognition for everyone! now, with this ramble done and that out of the way, here we have:
DAY ONE:
"Nice try."
I can't help that my voice cracks as I sit next to him, one hand pressed to his heart while the other drifts to his cheek before falling to asses the damage done. Not that I can fix it, not when I know my hand is already pressed to the part that hurts.
"Just-" I shift, arms finding just enough strength to pull him into me as he sits with his leg still stuck down a hole. "Breathe, huh?"
He doesn't need to know that I'm talking to myself. - vallora seth, d1f (brad bradford ★ d5b [arx] )
It happens in an instant. Fate tears me away from her because it knows I'd never do it myself. I'm half-falling, half wrenching myself forward with unspent momentum. My stomach lurches into my throat and I think I scream as her hand is torn from mine. Day turns to evening as my head connects hard with the ground, stars swimming in my vision as I fight through a daze to find the source of the pain currently lancing up my side.
I'm sunk, knee deep in a fucking hole. Torn cloth and fresh blood congeal in the dirt and I laugh as I watch it drip, pressing the heels of my palms into my eyes to obscure the exact moment they turn to broken sobs.
"Keep going." I don't look at her.
I'm not a martyr, I promise. - alistair gale, d1m (maverick hale 🌧️ d5 [nyte] )
As my cracking whip reverberated against the trees, it was as if a repressed summoning. Grey fur flashed out of the corner of my eye, causing my head to and body to whip around. “Looks like we got company.” As if on cue, a medium metal container floated down, it’s beeping as if a siren’s call to what lurked beyond the frozen trees. Goddamn it Cricket, couldn’t you have been helpful a little sooner? Like telling Shy to shower a bit quicker? - domitia drusilla, d2f (𝓂𝒶𝒽𝑜𝓊𝒽𝑜🕊 )
Anyways, fuck if I know where I ended up. I followed Del to wherever the fuck this place is. There's a large lake in front of us. At least I think it's a lake, one that's made out of glass. Shy. Use some context clues. Snow, water, cold probably. Of course, it's a glass lake. That makes PERFECT sense. - shy aubergine, d2m (uwu )
Her whole life, Vervain has never so much as hurt a fly. But it took nothing — no thought, no hesitation — to attack the other tributes, even her own district partner, someone she doesn't know but someone who is from home. Nothing. It took nothing.
Would it be the same way if she killed someone? Could she do it?
She thinks already she knows the answer.
(She doesn't want to go home in a box. There is only one way she won't.) - vervain ward, d3f (я𝑜𝓈𝑒 )
She returns with a whip, a snide remark escaping her lips. Yuki raises his brow at the weapon, biting his lip to stop the inappropriate remark that fought to get past his guard. "A whip. Yes, you look very, ah, dangerous." Whips didn't strike fear inside him, his eyes traveling down the long tails. Unlike the javelins in his pack, or the pickaxe by his side. He looked ice cold dangerous, Amelia? a puddle of melted snow, soft and harmless... - yuki amano, d3m (k!ah )
The chill of the wind in this snow covered plain gives a nice feeling to the purpling colored mark that resides on her face. A gentle calmness to the pain she's felt time and time before. Escaping to a beach early in the morning where the waves would crash against rocky cliff sides and sand bars leaving her to forget about the bruises her father would leave on her when she didn't produce enough poison for the family. The crunching of snow is relaxing, despite the chill that goes through her body. A fading memory of the past that bleeds into the present. Alex would be watching her in this snowscaped land; she knew he wouldn't be able to survive the snow if their positions had been switched. - jacynth voclain, d4f (Tom )
“Luke! Anari!”
Suddenly, his words are cut off by a Piper that’s standing on the lake. Standing. On a pool of precariously thin frozen water. As he watches, she moves and then falls and that’s when Luke snaps away from his trance, eyes widening before he rushes towards her.
The thought that arises then is the same one from before: Piper Shayne will be the death of all of them. - luke hailsham, d4m (napoleon, d2m ₊⊹ 🐁 ɢʀɪғғɪɴ. )
She throws the binder to the ground before running out behind cover, eye contact with the other pair’s boy. The other pair’s Andy, Caleb holds her knife with both hands out in front of her. ”Give me your shit- GIVE ME YOUR SHIT.” Clearing her throat as she clears the air, sizing them up.
Girls kill dragons all the time, Lysander can come back from the dead and Patricia can kill Crusader. Caleb and Andy have nothing but knives, nothing to lose and all to gain. She’s never been hurt before.
Naivety will kill her quicker. - caleb genesis, d5f (@fabulousraven )
When the needle enters through my skin, I try not to think about it too much. However, I am quick and grab the strap from my bag and begin to bite down on it just in case. My mother told me that if I needed to, biting on leather helped because it was sturdy enough to handle the force of the jaw. She probably told me other things, but I didnt pay that much attention. Each pass, I did my best to not make a sound.
I failed every time. - marsh deluca, d5m (pearl mcclain d4 [ryan] )
The last few, not deemed friends, scatter into the winter abyss with a couple final rustling of snow in their wake. A silence crumbles upon the white hill once more, while it’s not left nearly the same as before. Bodies don’t scatter the land as they have in previous years, not yet, though the pure snow is left bloody - and no longer a clean slate untouched by life. - charlie smith, d6f (Cameo {RIP Charlie} )
The sled proves a lot harder to handle than the ones you're used to.
Your position is all wrong, and the sled's heavy body gives it too much momentum, and even throwing your entire weight to one side only manages to shift its course by a pitiful amount. Exhilaration flips into fear in one gnawing instant, and suddenly all you can think about is how embarrassing it would be, to be remembered in the footnotes of the tribute museum for meeting your end crashing into a tree instead of against some other tribute or even a mutt.
Except there are no trees, and the wide flat that comes up at the bottom of the hill slows the sled down enough that you're able to leap out of it, ducking into an awkward roll, before it glances off a wooden stump and sails straight into the side of a massive bonfire.
There goes that, you mutter dejectedly as you set to pick up your stuff, now lying scattered across the snow. - lithe stront, d6m (Lyn𝛿is )
Her eyes widen in excitement, and she wants one for herself. A friend to stand by her side forever. Someone to love and care for her even when everyone else is gone. Carefully sitting in the snow, she hopes they won't see her as hostile, and maybe one will warm up to her, and that's when she sees another one, and all she wants is to have one for herself to cherish for all eternity.
"I promise, I won't hurt you. I swear."
Maybe it's enough, maybe it's not. Only time will tell. - sorrel jessamine, d7f (Knuckles )
I hated trying to be nice-looking towards people or animals. I usually just had my same old disgruntled look. I had a resting disgruntled face. Is that a thing? I always just look unhappy with the situation or where I am, which, I suppose, is usually not all that inaccurate.
To get this wolf to listen to me, though, I probably shouldn't have that look so prominent on my face. It seemed to ignore me the first time, after all. - zeus prank, d7m (kap )
Stabbed, dead. Stabbed, dead. Stabbed, survived, stabbed dead. I see it, I see it happening. Me being stabbed, me dying, me being stabbed, me dying. Again, and again, a thousand different versions of myself in a thousand different realities just like this one, but slightly different. Dead in that one, dead in that one, survive that one, dead in that one. Survive, step left, step left, the steps are quicker, they're right behind you. - rene rallis, d8m (rook )
These were the people she was trusting to watch her back. Audrey would call her an idiot. Probably was, back home safe and sound, worried sick about her. Trapped between a woodland princess and a weirdo. Whatever. There was a long week ahead of them. Hopefully. It was a sobering thought, knowing that at some point they’d be dead. She might even be the one that had to end them.
But she wouldn’t. Not unless they gave her a reason. Betraying your crew was a sure way to get killed back home. However, when the time came to break any bonds that had been forged in the heat of battle? When it was a choice between herself and these strangers?
Getting rid of them would be a piece of cake. - amelia hale, d9f (charade )
The cold air always stung in my throat, air puffing out in front of my eyes in clouds. Further and further away from the fighting, the snow deafening all sounds of it. I thought that I could've stayed longer, held my own against some of them. Many things were in there, thoughts, memories. Other shit that don't matter no more. I felt that tremble in my bones and my stomach, harder than any rush I'd had back home at Nine. I was scared.
Ain't that a new thing since stepping into that train.
I promised I'd make it home alive, not to fill that empty grave, but here, now? What a fuckin' joke was I thinking of then, now the ice hardening the eyelashes solid in between blinks. This was not what I'd seen coming, legs shaking between each stride, running towards nothing and-- footprints in the snow. They were fresh, at least as far as the snow ain't covered them yet. It was only one set, two lone steps trailing off ahead. Slowing to a stop, hoping to hear anything but the howling of the cold air, stinging with every passing moment. Nothing, but what hope did I have? Not a chance. - andy sing, d9m (ghosty )
Except it's quiet. And there's no teeth and no claws. I open my eyes super duper slowly, and
it's just sitting there?
It huffs, very self-satisfied if I do say so myself, and I straighten up. "What the hell?!" The thing actually looks smug, and I cross my arms. Never thought I'd be scolding a wolf, but here we are. "I thought you were going to eat me."
It only takes me about five seconds to realize I'm standing on something that isn't quite the ground. I decide it's safe enough to look away from the wolf, just for a sec, what the hell, and I look down at my foot. There's a bunch of fabric on the ground, white like the snow, and I bend over to pick it up,
And, oh gross- this must've been what the wolf was chewing on, because one corner is completely soaked through with dog spit. A cloak, I realize once I've shaken it out a little. And it's disgusting, but at least it looks warm.
"Uhh, thanks?" - piper shaye, d10f (tick 12a / calla )
-- to be filled in once fireflyz fills in her filler! -- - anari chesterfield, d10m (fireflyz )
"Seems like you surely pissed off some people. Didn’t expect that from you Eleven."
I sigh, leaning my head back into the snow, my hair splayed out as white swirls into it.
"I know, right?" I say, exasperated, "I thought I was so lovable." - neysa sachdeva, d11f (pup )
In front of a lake with a cerulean sheen and with the cornucopia at their backs, the two boys had started the longest journey one (or both) of them would ever take. Here they’d take their stand against the capitol, against tyranny, and discover what fears waited to tear apart their souls. Would Delroy find that just and honorable fight, or as Kass had pointed out, would he die as pointlessly as the rest of them, forgotten save for his family back in eleven? A remnant of history, his name written in a book just as his great uncle’s: Delroy Wickersham, 16. - delroy wickersham, d11m (marguerite harvard d2a (zori) )
She paused and thought for a moment, feeling slightly embarrassed that the first real friend she'd make in the arena would be a wolf, but hey, that's better than none. She'd done exactly what Nico had told her; she found allies. He didn't say anything about pets.
“You follow me, yeah?” She extended a hand out and ruffled the fur atop the wolf's head, giving her a little scratch under the chin before standing up once again. “I'll call you Shadow.” - mona wyatt, d12f - (sidney )
In all my training over the years, I've always told my patients to take it easy after a break. Bedrest and no strenuous activity at least for a week or two before they'd take off back to the mines like everyone else does because being out of work is the most unheard of thing in district twelve. Yet here I am disregarding my own advice like a five year old listening to a lecture. Of course, when there's a mutt not too far a way, I edge my way back to my feet and try to coax the creature closer as if it wouldn't maul me or Sorrel to death. Something was just...
