There's no reason on the surface for the life of Blake Julien to be anything other than ordinary. He's your everyday ordinary boy, living a simple, if comfortable life. He goes to a local public school, spends his free time engaged in social and athletic pursuits, and comes home to a loving family consisting of a mother, a father, and three younger siblings.

But there's a curse lying deep within the genes of the Julien name, a blight that plucks members of the bloodline from the land of the living at random. A curse that manifests anywhere from the late teenage years to well into adulthood, one that robs each man and woman, boy and girl that it affects - first of sleep, then of sanity, and lastly of life.

Some get lucky. Some in the Julien bloodline go from birth to death without any symptoms. But others are not so, afflicted by the curse in what is otherwise the prime of their lives, their vitality robbed by something deep within the bloodline.

There's no known cure, beyond praying that each child that is born proves lucky. But far from its borders, the family can only endure, praying to Ripred above that maybe, this time, the curse will skip a generation entirely. Maybe this time, everyone born will live and die on their own times.
