Chaos bleeds into our lives at every turn, yet nobody thinks to wrap a few layers of bandage over the bloody wound and call it a day. Petty drama and gossip is all I find myself hearing as I approach an unsuspecting table of guests with their drinks. It pains me to say, that while driven by conflict, our little bubble of Panem might be better without it. Voices rise one minute and fall to a deadly silence the next. It's hard to stay sane in a world where everyone is at everyone else's throats day and night.

Perhaps that's why I like to stay busy. School in the morning, training in the afternoon, working at the restaurant at night. Wash, rinse, repeat every day. The more I stay out of the drama, it seems, the better. Success is a marathon, not a sprint, and those who crash and burn early never seem to recover and get back into the fight. One of the ladies at the restaurant always tells me that with my nice blond hair and pretty green eyes, I should just go out there and be somebody, rather than waiting on tables. Beauty fades with age, she told me, and with your family's name, so will your reputation.

Funny that she thinks I'm relying on looks and titles for my success. Empires and legacies are not built with batting eyes and a name that raises a few brows. The foundations come methodical, careful planning that may just take longer than a beauty's lifetime to complete.
