adventure for two | posy & rusty ; blitz

"Pose," my heart aches, this is the comedown. I can tell he's upset. He's just trying to seem happy for me. Posy's always done that, put on a brave face for others. Not just a people pleaser, he looks after us. Always putting others before himself, because that's just who he is. Good and kind and decent, satisfied with what he has, nothing like me. I'm selfish, and ungrateful, and far too greedy for my own good. A girl born in Twelve should learn to be content with what she has.

And I am content - with Posy. He's the only person, the only thing in this entire place, that's ever been enough for me. And I can imagine it, even if he can't, us two wandering through the forest and climbing trees and sipping cocoa, wearing wool coats and knitted scarves, sitting at a table carved from the same oak as the home we stay in. Whenever I think of going, it's with him. Whenever I would dream, he'd be there.

I used to think I'd have to leave him someday. Then this happened, and now I realise we can leave together. Just the two of us. Rusty Lacour and her kind, good, brother.

"You don't need to think about that, I'll take care of it" - I always do. I'll talk to Mom. Talk to Dad. Figure it out, with their blessing or not. "Come with me," I beg of him, because I would never order him to follow me. I never had to.

He just did, because it made me happy.

Because he's too kind to stay put, even if he wants to.

"It'll be an adventure."
