Ivan Rin
“Only a man who knows what it is like to be defeated can reach down to the bottom of his soul and come up with the extra ounce of power it takes to win when the match is even.”
— Muhammad Ali
If you've ever seen Ivan throw a punch, you'd know he has an immense amount of strength. Although he's not actually as strong as a gorilla, his power has been compared to one before. The way he swings at his opponent and knocks them down all within seconds is quite impressive. When he was younger, he was full of taunts and torments for his opponents as he sparred with them. Now, he's a quiet fighter. You don't hear him say much in a typical match.
Ivan grew up with a love for fighting and the Hunger Games all of his life. His favorite thing to watch on the television, like many Capitol children, had always been the Hunger Games. The blood and gore gets his adrenaline pumping, and there are times where he would wish he could be a part of it all. Now, in a way, he's involved, although he doesn't get to fight to the death in the Games. He works with tributes in the training center, getting them ready for the death match that they're about to face.
After fighting in the eighty-seventh annual Trainer's Tournament, he managed to win and gain the position of head trainer. He will be training the tributes who make their way to the Capitol as they prepare to fight in the Hunger Games. To be involved so heavily in the Hunger Games is a dream he's had for a very long time. Now, he's finally accomplished it.
He could be working with a future victor. He could be preparing that future victor, and be the reason that they come out on top. This is what Ivan has always wanted, and now he finally has the opportunity. The man has been training for most of his twenty-six years of life, and now he gets to put it to use.
Many people are intimidated by Ivan at first glance. Although, he isn't entirely sure why that is. Perhaps it's those who see how muscularly built he is. Maybe his tattoos are off=putting to some (although, given the Capitol style, that's unlikely). He doesn't know what intimidates other people about him, but he's been told he can be a bit scary at times.
A man who isn't usually into the party scene that the Capitol so heavily indulges in, Ivan can be caught in the corner indulging in alcoholic drinks when he's forced to be at a party. There certainly do seem to be times that that happens, now and again. There was a time when his sister told him they were having a small get-together for her birthday, so he showed up, only to be met with over three hundred guests present. Needless to say, he had far too much champagne and wine that night. He regrets going, in a way, but he is still at least glad he could be there for his sister so that he wasn't that asshole that didn't go to his sister's thirtieth birthday party.
When Ivan isn't acting as a trainer, he spends his time as a tattoo artist. He's quite good at it, too. His artwork is stunning, and he hardly ever gets a complaint from his clients about the way it looks, if he ever gets complaints at all. It's started to go to his head a bit, however, and he seems to be a bit overly confident in most things that he does now, from sparring to tattooing and all things in between, whether they're work-related or not. Maybe eventually he'll stop allowing compliments to go to his head.
In his free time, something that surprises people is that Ivan enjoys a good book. He also writes songs, although he isn't particularly good at producing music himself. He hopes to eventually have a musician take on some songs for him out of what he's written. Ivan has a lot of long term goals in life, though, which also include the desire to publish a book and become a Gamemaker. He's taking one step at a time to get where he wants to be, and seems to be moving forward in life.
