Always a well dressed fraud

"His name is Sebastian! He's big and has a scar- no I don't know his last name!" Benedict argued with the Peacekeeper outside his holding room door. The minutes were ticking down until they had to leave and he had unfinished business with that meathead. His hands kept shaking and he slammed them again the doorframe to keep them still.

"Listen, it's vey important I see him. He has something of mine and I need it," Benedict begged the man in white. The Peacekeeper was growing tired of listening to Benedict's constant demands and rested his hand on his gear belt.

"You only see the people who want to see you. I'm going to look for a guy who owes you a favor."

Benedict let out a cry of frustration, slapping the frame between him and the Peacekeeper.

"Please! I'll pay you, I'll give you anything but I need to see that man!

One of the things that annoyed Sebastian about living in a tumultuous district was that people that owed him money had a bad habit of getting themselves killed before they could pay him back. He could add Benedict Nolan to that list; or he would be adding him shortly.

Little bastard went and got himself reaped.

Sebastian grumbled and headed into the building.

“I’m here to see the kid.” He stated bluntly to the peacekeeper outside the holding room. “Name’s Sebastian.”

It had been a good gig while it lasted, funneling the money he made as a bodyguard into his small criminal enterprise. Running odd jobs added up after a while and Benny boy was only one of many that Seb had worked for over the years. Definitely the youngest though. For a teenager, Benny had a good head on his shoulders. One that made cash by betting and probably cheating at cards and at pool. But the brightest bulbs always burned out the fastest or whatever.

“Boss,” he said sardonically as he entered the room. “Can’t talk your way out of this one, eh?”

Mustering some tender charm

At the last possible moment that magnificent man finally showed up. The Peacekeeper muttered as he let Seb into the room and Benedict immediately put his hand out.

"I need my picture," his hands and voice were shaking, his cheeks tearstained. His face looked entirely out of place in contrast to his nice suit. A frightened child dressed up for a party. "The picture I gave you when we met of the girl, I need it."

"And I need you to take care of her," Benedict said, his voice cracking. "She can take care of herself but look out for her. She... she puts herself in dangerous places and I'll give you all I have left in my accounts, I just need her to be okay."

It was times like these that Sebastian was reminded of how old he’d gotten. Here was a young man with too much money and not enough sense, worried about a girl he was leaving behind that would probably forget him as soon as he died.

Still, it was foolish to turn down cash. He could afford to check in on Benedict’s gal, maybe right after he put some money down with his bookie.

Betting against his former employer of course. No way Benny made it home without protection.
Sebastian might have been a petty criminal, but he had a sense of honor. A code. And if the girl was anything like Benedict, then he might be able to continue his work as a bodyguard.

“Sure thing, Benny.” He saluted the kid lazily, using two fingers. It was fate that had brought the rich kid to his alleyway that night, and it was fate that was speeding Benedict into an early grave.

No one survived district nine forever.

He took his wallet and opened it, drawing the picture in question out and handing it off. He paused thoughtfully, remembering the girl that died and taken his heart with her when she did.

“The girl. What’s her name? You never did tell me.”
