i say and i smile because it's easy and i forget the places where we blended if i pretend they don't exist.

everyone says that we looked exactly alike but that's not entirely true, charlie didn't have scars like mine nor did i have his. That's kind of where we split, that's kind of where I lost him and I think about that a lot, how if maybe if mine had been a little deeper, his wouldn't have seemed so bad.

I fall into it, the becoming of my father. The never wanting to be him ended fast when I learned what desperation feels like. Being shut out, descending lower for the weakness of the boy who wore my same skin, my brother, it lent me a strange sort of fire that I haven't been able to put out again.

The raw feeling of a diamond, uncut and unpolished torn from bedrock, forming into something new.

And my bones emerge from under my skin, raw and bloody and aching from use.
