Slowly you rise, barring your teeth, twisting as Milli does to dodge a flaming blur of orange and red that seems to want to feast on your meal. You turn to growl at it but flinch as a knife flies through the air, narrowly missing one of your dozens of legs - this will be a challenge, but one with a delicious reward.

If you had a spare moment you might feel something at the thought of it never seeing its origin again, like how the idea of you never feeling buried by the earth again brings a strange melancholy. But you won't let that happen. You shall feast and return to your burrows, content for another day.

Milli pays no mind to the now-dead salamander, too focused on the end goal. In some ways you wish you were like that, but you know there is more to life than fulfilling a ravenous hunger. Still, you attack - because you know if you do not eat, you shall be as good as the salamander now still and lifeless on the ground.

They're getting angry now, you can feel it in the way their muscles tense as you bite down. Angry fighters are sloppier, less aware of their surroundings, only making themselves easier targets. It's Ion's turn to take a chunk out of their heads - the brain is always the tastiest, and your companion has the right idea. The pool of blood trailing down the tribute's chin only makes your nerves stand up on edge, lusting to rip apart the girl's face once more.

Its new weapon can't touch you - you're too fast, barely a scratch on you. You have borrowed time, so you use it well -going back to your strategy of surprise. Burrowing into the ground you listen to their muffled yelps, closer still to where their feet stamp into the earth above you, and then in a great burst of earth you explode upwards in a fountain of grey dust and sharp teeth, swiping towards the killer of your flaming companion.
