You're on your way home with a paintset under your arm when you first notice Parker. It starts with a flash of brown hair reflecting off of a store window, then it's the footsteps that match your own a little too closely. Her washed out shade of army green keeps popping up in the corner of your arm, darting back and forth across the sidewalk, and you suppress a frustrated scream.

Don't they know you're grieving?

It was bad enough being sent home from campus, worse when you flunked the English final. Even worse when you found out why you flunked the English final.

Then Naomi apparently had a breakdown, you don't know, okay, you haven't talked to her since that day in the music room, but once people found out that Cleo had been killed then every finger had pointed at her picture perfect boyfriend. It didn't matter that you were dealing with your own shit, because hello? Your girlfriend - and yes, you say it over and over again, she was your girlfriend - had died, and no one had even bothered to call and check up on you.

And now on top of everything, you have to deal with Parker tailing you like some kind of stalker.

You turn into an alley languidly, waiting around the corner until her footsteps approach, then you're grabbing her by the shoulder and pushing her against the bricks.

"Why are you following me, freak?" You grit out, making a show of lifting your hand and grimacing, wiping it on the lapel of your jacket.

Cleo's death had stirred a heaviness within Parker. A feeling of wading through muck and throwing her head into killer and the killed. Optimism wasn't her specialty. She's always assumed the worst of the worst is going to happen. In a way, it has. Parker's lost a long time friend. A dead body to be buried, possibly by her family's hands now. A piece of her childhood will die in that grave, but she's got more pressing matters. There's only one single conclusion she's made through this single death. Trust Fund was now free from the public's view of their relationship. All of it was face anyway from the proof she had hidden away on a flimsy piece of film.

Why wouldn't it be the boyfriend?

Scarlett was in the way. Cassius was just to take others off the trail. Cleo was the real target. Grady was an asshole. He had the nerve to do it. There was a motive. Everything could easily add up to Grady and his pockets lined with his daddy and mommy's money. Feet taking her from corner to corner, camera left behind for this. Anger bubbling in her heart as she follows steadily for blocks. Following a killer hadn't been her smartest move, but she wasn't afraid of trust fund. Parker wasn't helpless in a fight, she had her own ways out of a fight, even if it meant going for the low blows.

An alley way is the first mistake she makes. The second was letting herself be caught by Grady. Sharp bricks pressed against her back as she's pushed against it. Anger building in her throat as she can feel all the memories of Cleo come rushing back. Clara was already stressed out enough. She didn't need any of this. None of them did. Trust Fund had to be the one who killed Cleo. He had to be. The only problem now was Stella was in Trust Funds' way. She would be next and despite not liking Stella, there's no reason for anyone to die.

"Why are you following me, freak?"

Trust fund removes his hand and wipes it off. Garbage is what he considered her to be. Her fists tightening by her side as she glares into his eyes. Dick Wad really thought he was doing something. Freak. Weirdo. Crazy. Parker's been called enough names to not give a shit, but she's tired of Trust Fund and his ugly face.

"You did it. Didn't you?"

Stepping forward, grabbing the collar of his shirt, pulling him forward. Anger on the edges of her fingers as she stands up to him.

"You killed her! You fucking killed her to get what you fucking want."

Digging through the muck only leads to pain.

"Just fucking tell me."

Parker grabs you by the shirt collar, all five of her grubby little fingers pulling you down to her level so quickly that your back cracks. The paints fall out fo your grip and the case clatters against the ground. You're practically bent in half as she hisses in your face, accusing you of something so fucking stupid that your mouth hangs open for a second.

But then you're grabbing her hand and wrenching it away from you, sneering at the way the fabric of your shirt stretches. You throw her hand back at her and narrow yours eyes. The audacity to even - that fact that she thought - god, it makes your blood boil.

She thinks you're a killer? You?

"You're insane." You spit down to her, drawing yourself up and setting your shoulders. "You're a psychopath."

Your reputation has been hurt enough through all of this, you're sure that your own mother thinks you did it, and the fact that Parker of all people is the one threatening to run off with the scraps - it makes you sick. She's barely even worth your glance.

You huff and pick the paint set back up. If any of those watercolours are broken, there'll be hell to pay.

"I loved Cleo." And it only tastes a little sour. "I'm not sure if you've noticed, being cooped up in that little cave of yours, but some of us are trying to mourn."

You start to step away from her, done with the conversation before it even started, but really, you can't resist one last remark. You've held everything back for so long, you think you deserve it. "Besides, don't you have to go photograph dead puppies or something?"

P A R K E R

A clattering of objects isn't the only sound in her ears. Whispers of the past two years coming back to her, the memories of Cleo that desperately cling to her chest, and the anger she felt when it came to him. Grady Sullivan is a prick, the biggest fucker in all of Salvatore Boarding School, and now the notorious killer. She believed it. She had to. There's no other options, other than Stella maybe, but even then, there's no motive, no reason, nothing to support the evidence. Her hand is ripped away, tossed back into her like the garbage people see her as. The freak who says everything people are afraid to say. A girl who only carries a camera and acts tough to survive through high school.

"You're insane." It's spat at her, just like it normally would be. A new fire behind it, but she's certain she already knew it would come. Secrets make people weak. Reasons to fight for their own selfish wants. A tear on her shirt from the pressing of sharp bricks against her back. Nothing she can't fix with the way her brothers used to put holes in their jeans. "You're a psychopath."

Psychopath.

The only psychopath here was Grady fucking Sullivan. The photo hidden inside her jacket's pocket was enough to prove that. Fingers reaching to the pocket, gripping the edge of the photo before she stares back at Grady, watching him reach for the clattering of items, something she's not even noticed before. A weapon? Rope? Something to kill her with? Paints are within his hands and Parker feels herself relax for a moment before standing up straighter again, almost ready to speak again. She wants to yell in his face for calling her a psychopath. The same word she's been called too many times.

"I loved Cleo." A lie. "I'm not sure if you've noticed, being cooped up in that little cave of yours, but some of us are trying to mourn." She's been mourning. Lost in this haze of anger, denial, and sorrow. The only way she could mourn was to find the person who killed her childhood friend. The same childhood friend who used to take her breath away with a smile back then. Her fists clench at her side before he's stepping away.

"Besides, don't you have to go photograph dead puppies or something?"

It's a moment before the storm. An anger bubbling up in her chest, feeling like tears may even dare to come out of her eyes, but she can't break. She has to stand up to him. She has to let him know she knows. Reaching forward, she yanks harshly on his sleeve, trying to stop him leaving the alley way.

"Fuck you!" Glaring at him, she continues stepping forward away from the wall. "Your fucking lies aren't going to work on me, Trust Fund." There's a point where she can swear her blood is boiling, but she's standing tall, staring into the face of a boy who could easily kill her and pay off someone to make it go away. "You've never loved Cleo. You loved the status she gave you. The one you craved since your fucking pocketbook couldn't get you to the top. And-And then you killed her."

Stepping forward again, trying to make herself look frightening. If Grady wanted a fucking psychopath, he'd have one. Pulling the photo she has of Grady and Benji, she holds it up and shoves it in his chest, blocking his path now.

"You killed her because you wanted to be free of your relationship, but keep the status. You killed her. You aren't mourning and we both fucking know that."

A smirk on her lips as she lets go of the photo, letting it fall to the ground, anger bubbling from her heart.

"The only psychopath here is fucking you. You're not going to get away with this, Grady."

Her paws are back on you in seconds, and you dully wonder if it's too late to file a restraining order. But you've always been Grady and Parker right? Rivals to the bitter end. Not that you'd consider her a rival, per say. She's more like a little gnat.

You whip around when she grips your sleeve, rounding on her when she starts to yell. She tries to make you out as the evil mastermind of all this, as if you'd even have the time to orchestrate it.

For a stalker, she doesn't seem to know very much about you.

But Parker's anger is rewarding, in a way. Ever since campus was closed and you were sent back home, you've been stuck in some kind of limbo. There was always an influx of attention in Salvatore, especially when you had Cleo on your arm, and if there was anything you knew how to do - you knew how to bask in it.

You can feel the familiar warmth now, looking at the fire in Parker's eyes. After nearly a week of being ignored in your home, you're being seen. You watch her lose her temper, all of her edges unraveling in this dirty alley, and then you have the plain audacity to laugh in her face.

You don't remember getting so cruel. Maybe Parker just has a special talent of bringing it out of you. Her anger is molten and lightening quick, but yours is cold and agonizing. Because you don't get to the top by blowing your top and accusing everyone of being murderers. You get there through planning, and cutting your losses, and you get there by being smart.

"You. Are. Insane." You enunciate, thriving over this small power you hold over her. You could destroy her so easily, you could turn the entire school against her in a matter of minutes and all it would take is a few little words. Although, really, how deeper can you push someone who's already hit rock bottom?

Her words bounce off of you, because you've heard so much worse, and you are not afraid of Parker fucking Gautier.

But then she steps towards you, and she holds out a photograph, and that razor sharp smirk falls from your face. Everything narrows down to one point, like the world slows down for a moment, and the blood drains from your face as everything starts to slips out from underneath you.

Everything does a full one-eighty when you look at the picture, then back to Parker, then back to the picture again.

You can still taste blackberries when you thinks of Benji's mouth.

"Where did you get that?" You hiss at her, because you saw how much Stella hated Scarlett, you had a front row seat in fact, and you know that this is something she'd ruin you for. "You little-"

Benji had been hard to read when you confronted him, but you were confident enough after the fact that he wouldn't go spreading it around. Parker is different though, and you think about how quick you were to start planning the downfall of her own status. You wonder how long she's been planning the downfall of yours.

But you take a breath, because you have methods, and if there's a single thing your father taught you, it's that there are a handful of things in life that can shut someone up. You ball your fists and narrow your eyes, speaking to her through your teeth.

"What do want?"

"You. Are. Insane."

Parker Gautier has been insane since high school started. She used to believe Cleo and herself could be friends forever. Friends forever in the way she used to laugh about it to her mother and father as if it were an obvious fact. A truth that wouldn't fade away with growing up and popularity and the stupidity of high school social pressures. Parker was insane for believing everything would come up rainbows and fucking pale blue skies in fields of daisies. Trust Fund didn't get to call her insane when she already knew of her own insanity. Stills caught in scenes where teenagers laugh and pretend the world isn't a pit of muck and grime that pulls and pulls until they're drowning in it.

Insanity is the scorch marks of the killer's doings on Cleo's body, until she couldn't breath.

Parker should have been in Naomi's position.

She could have done more for Cleo.

Instead, she's here with a cowardice play, holding out the photograph of Benji and Grady's secret moment. Copies of the photo hidden away in various spots because she's been planning for the day she needed to use them to take down Grady Sullivan for good. Trust Fund always believed he was above everyone else, but now he's taken everything away from her. A boy who she wanted to help. A girl who had once been her ex best friend. Too many lies rest upon her own heart, truths that she knew about Grady and the others, except she hadn't gone through with it because of Scarlett. The day when she died, Parker knew she was apart of her fall. The banner glittering in the morning sun with the image that ruined it all. Benji didn't deserve anymore pain, but Grady's done enough to rip her life apart.

The way his face pales is the best feeling in all of Panem. The fear that comes across makes her feel as if she has control once more. Control is all she's ever wanted, but this wasn't the way. Parker knew Grady had done it. The motive, the means, and the evidence was as clear as day. "Where did you get that?" A darker feeling bubbles in her heart as she grits her teeth, staring into his eyes, determined and angry. "You little-" Rat. It's what he's always thought of her as. A rat who doesn't leave anyone alone, but Grady should have known.

Rats will never die, there's always another one hiding.

"Not having eyes watching you has it's benefits, Trust Fund."

Parker's got Grady exactly where she wants him. Trapped in her own grasp, afraid of what will come, but she wanted him to know she had his number. Grady had to be the killer. Watching him for a moment, she can see him tense up. Fists balled up in a way that resembles a kid who doesn't get what they want. His eyes narrowed, looking towards her with a calm, but desperate anger that's clearly present. A smirk on her lips as she lets go of his sleeve, pulling the photo back into her jacket.

"What do you want?"

Grady Sullivan was a foolish rich kid.

He should already know what she wanted.

"You can't give me what I want Grady. You've already taken it from me."

Stepping back, narrowing her eyes at him, she crosses her arms over her chest.

"Tell Stella about the photo or I will."

Grady wanted her to be a psycopath.

Well, he got one.

"That's what I want now."

You backpedal as fast as you can when the initial shock wears off. You grab your mask and you fasten it as tight as it will go, building up your walls brick by brick to shut Parker out. There's still a sharp edge to your voice as your nails dig into your palms, mind working at a million miles to try and find a way out of this.

But you know Parker in a way that you'd never want to admit, and you know that there's no monetary item you could ever offer that would make her back off. You swear the girl must be part shark - she smells blood in the water and she dives for it.

Tell Stella, she says, or I will

If she wasn't Parker, and if you weren't Grady, you might've been impressed.

But your heart keeps running like a jackrabbit, and the more you look at her, the angrier you get. Because how dare she? How dare she try to threaten you. With all your power? And all your reach? She's digging herself into a hold that she won't be able to climb out of.

"That isn't real." You scoff, but Parker still snatches the photo away when you try to grab it, "You probably doctored it."

Parker only taunts you more, and you try to make yourself sound nonchalant, loosening the tension in your shoulders. But even you can tell that your posture is forced, and your teeth are grinding together in a way that your physician would despise.

"Stella won't believe you anyways." You say, shoving your desperation deep down in a place where no one will find it, deflecting the problem like you always do, "I'm her friend, I would never betray her like that."

You're a good actor, at least. And if you and Stella grimace behind each others backs, then that's your own business.

"But you? You're just a nobody."

This isn't even about Cleo anymore. Maybe it was in the beginning, maybe that was Parker's initial intention, but she's just pissed you off now. You won't go as far as to say she's scared you, because you know she isn't capable of something like that. Instead, you smother down your panic and adjust your jacket.

"You're just jealous, Gautier." And you raise your chin and turn away because you are the bigger person here, and she's the one that's nothing. She's the one that's fucked up. "Stay the hell away from me."
