He’s staring down at the gun in his hands like he suddenly doesn’t understand how it’s gotten there, and as he shifts, the reflection of light off the surrounding glass does too, and it’s in this moment that I see the raised red of the safety, the button still protruding. The safety, I try to call out, and though my voice feels strained and unfamiliar, I continue, Fitz, the fucking safety is still on.


And in the space of less than ten words, I feel as though everything in me is spent. I stand silent and unmoving, both hands trying to hold my heart in. -- Zoë
