Every day I have seen one fall and then I have run. We are fighting over a body right now, our own blood pouring above poor Kyler. I do not waste a bullet this time, blood drawn from Lorraine’s neck. The gun is empty. Its game over for this revolver and it will be game over for me if I do not step up now and dodge a bullet from this maniac hell bent on keep me away from Nan. I was once the enemy for killing her ally and yet Lightening Rod still strikes despite making a Kyler kebab with her spear.

Her scream quakes my bones as I my fumble in my trouser pocket, trying to find the rusty knife that once dug deep into a beast a few days ago. I can do it again. I need to do it again.

She charges; I wish I could wave a red sheet in front of Silk as that is who she should really be thirsting for blood from. Lenox has taken the revenge route; I need this bull out of my path. A fucking tire bounces off my legs, sending me straight down to the ground again. Shit fuck. My whole face eats dirt and damn something definitely snapped somewhere in my leg, maybe a few toes and a tendon.

I drag myself back to my foot and half leg that works, the tears and the dirt on my cheeks painting a new face on my skin. All I can do is release a long scream, I empty my lungs of the pain my teeth gritted, and the knife raised right above my head, to the level of Lorraine’s eyes. ”Have you noticed who Silk has killed?” I spit out a few flakes of dirt that have made their way to my lips as I talk. ”I am worth more than a bra…b-bitch!”

It knocks me back again, the bullet tearing past my skull taking a piece from me. She fucking shot my ear off. Where is Nan? She needs to come and grab me, tear me away from here and put a bullet between the eyes of this girl.

I take back on what I said about there being no monsters in here. I am looking at the face of one right now. ”You shot me in the back!”

The knife is as useless as the hole in the side of my head. It burns and I daren’t touch it like the wound on my back. I am really going to run out of bandages. I have more guns, more bullets. It will be an ear for an ear. A loaded revolver sits at the top of my sack.

I need to get this shot right. I need to go find Nan. I need her.

”I am not the one taking lessons today. You are no teacher. You are monster.”

I flick the safety catch on the gun, my hands can barely stay still as I extend out my arms. All my thoughts are on the two critical festering wounds on my body. There is too much chaos. Everything seems out of place, a little fuzzy. It is either the radiation poisoning or the blood loss. I just need to get out. I cannot let myself fall today. I need Nan.

”I am want out of here. I am sorry. Just let me get out!” I aim to the one with more blood loss than me. I asked for her help and I hope she is my help out of here.

My eyes must have been closed for a longer than a second after the bang from the tip of my revolver. I first see the smoke burst from the end of the barrel, the remnants of a well fired bullet. Then I see the sight of Silk spitting blood. Yesterday I was crippling myself by aiming a bullet at her friend. Today I nearly triggered her canon. There is no time in the arena, hours feel like days and days feel like years. Everything just changes so quickly. Every action and every thought.

"You can either run and go find Nanette, or you swallow your fear and fight as if your life fucking depends on it."

My life depends on every second I remain here. Every second I remain with these people. The expected bullet grazes my arm and then the extinguished lightening rod tears at the breaking armoured boots strapped onto my already collapsing feet.

Every part of me feels different. I feel cold. I feel warm. The world is spinning around me but my vision on each of their faces is so clear. The loudest canon sound of the day is so clear too. Lachance takes the chance to end it. It is done. I need to run. ”I am not useless!” I spit before dragging myself away, not looking back to see if there is a bullet whistling past my not there ear. It is time I found her. It is time she found me. Silk was the only one to treat me kindly today and that is how I paid her back. Maybe I am the monster. Or I am just a lucky survivor.
