Each day is to start with a jigsaw, that's the way her world works. On a crooked table like a brain had slept on the grooves of wood. The puzzle lays in wait for Polly's trained eyes. Having seen the same sequence for weeks now, she has taken the remaining pieces with her each day, the complication of the extra weight, the extra space they take up, and the hassle of carrying them anywhere other than the table. It was to spur her on, at first. Now, a ritual. Something she can't quite stop. There's a habit within her that she won't adjust, because it makes her brain stronger, but rather gives it something to do.
One piece left, but it's time to go. She can't be late, that's the way her world works. On the cobbled roads like a creature in the daylight. Polly strides into the streets of Eight as though she owns at least a part of it, even though she's young. Nothing to see where she walks, just a girl and the path bonded by neither purpose or presence. Just the road, her shoes, and the flowing of her hair.
The District welcomes her unknowingly, as she slides into one of the alleyways, then out into another street. Then another shortcut, then into a calm bar with dim lighting. Nothing to see where she sits, just a girl and her drink that glimmers as it swirls.
Then the door opens, and the smokey room is a little brighter.
