The whole idea of her brother going into the Games was admittedly quite terrifying. Sure, Coach assured everyone that he knew what he was doing, and that he wouldn't let anyone get between him and that victory, but unfortunately, people are wrong sometimes.
Well, sure, it wasn't exactly a person getting between him and victory. Rather, it was a mutt. Regardless, the Gamemakers controlled that mutt, and he couldn't fight it off. In the end, the Gamemakers had killed Coach. Sephora could only imagine how it all felt, getting killed in such a way. She didn't want to think about it. She just wished she'd had the guts to volunteer so she could've been there to protect him when that happened.
She would've jumped between him and the mutt in a heartbeat, but it was too late for all that now. Far too late. There was a victor who had been crowned, and it wasn't her brother.
Sephora wasn't the bitter type about all this though, no. She wasn't going to tell the victor that he didn't deserve to be alive. No, he'd fought just as the other had, and had happened to do better. He made it through alive, even being younger than Coach and with no career training. Maybe it was the luck of the draw, or perhaps the kid really knew what he was doing.
Why wasn't she bitter? She wasn't bitter because she wouldn't have wanted anyone to be bitter towards Coach if it were him coming back instead. She wouldn't want anyone to hate her just for living if she became a victor one day. That just wasn't how things were supposed to work in her eyes.

When the victory tour came through to District One, Sephora was set on meeting the new victor. Flynn was his name. He'd been rather impressive in the Games, just like her own brother had. She wondered what would have happened if the two had had the opportunity to fight one another one on one.
Sephora did manage to get her chance to meet the boy, and she was the first to speak when she approached him.
"Congratulations, Flynn," she said to him somewhat weakly. Sure, she wasn't going to be angry about this boy's victory, but she was certainly sad about it not being her own brother.
"I have a question for you," she said. "If you don't mind, that is."
She paused for a moment before continuing into her question.
"Was volunteering worth it? The fighting and the killing, to come out on top? Coach planned to volunteer but got reaped instead, and I wonder if it was worth it to him, or if it would be worth it for me to do it someday…"
She stopped rambling, afraid she'd gone too far.
"Sorry, that's a lot to throw at you right now. I know you've just been through a lot." She felt rather awkward as she apologized, realizing she may have been a bit too forward with him.
