Surprise, surprise! The monthly tutor-hosted Writing Challenge is back in action!
Our team is super excited to get this event up and running again — and we apologize for the delay in doing so! To encourage more participation this time around, we’ve updated our prize system (to be announced at the close of this month’s challenge, but yes, cash and CBs are on the table), and even better, we are now including a bonus CB that you can secure just by completing two consecutive events. For example, if you do the challenges for May and then June, that’s a free CB just for you! After that, your counter will be reset and you will need to complete the process again to win the bonus. Simple as that!
Same as always, feel free to post your submissions below or in the AU Board.TLDR;
We want to read your writing!
We’ll bribe you if we have to!
Prompt One;
In honor of Mother’s Day, we’d like to challenge you to write from the perspective of your character’s mother. This mother can be a non-player character, or an established character who already exists on the site — there are no rules, only what makes sense for the character you’ve chosen! The goal is to take a very important moment in that character’s life, be they a former tribute of yours or someone you currently have muse for, and to write about this from their mother’s perspective. The day your character was reaped, or lost their life in the Games, or maybe they were crowned the victor; when your character married their spouse, or gave birth to a child of their own, etc.
If your character does not have a mother, any maternal figure will do, or you can revert back to a time in which the character did have a mother. An example could be writing your character’s mother on the day she gives them up to an orphanage. The goal here is to showcase that no relationship between a mother and her child is going to be precisely the same, as no situation is going to be precisely the same. Write about mistakes, or triumphs. Write about the similarities and the differences. Celebrate the good and forgive for the bad. Because at the end of the day, if there is one person in the world you need to depend on, why not make it your mom?
Prompt Two;
To be respectful of a potentially sensitive subject, we have provided a second prompt for those who are still interested in participating. It centers around something that all of us on the site enjoy: found families! For this challenge, we’d like to read a post that captures your character in the company of their friends/reflecting about experiences with said friends/etc. Once again, there are no rules! And if your character’s friends are written by other writers on the site, you are encouraged to thread with them and link that as your entry! The more shenanigans y'all get up to, the better.TLDR;
Seriously, there are no rules!
You've got this!
Submissions will be closed on the evening of the 31st, and the winner will be announced soon after! Good luck, and have fun!
