Considering the deep pockets of some of the Capitolites in attendance, one would think someone might have considered booking a venue for this fundraiser with walls any color other than baby puke green. (Or is that supposed to be yellow? Bright brown, maybe?) It's hard to tell if the paint is matched to the violently graphic wall-to-wall carpeting or if the carpeting itself was a last minute choice by the hotel event space designer to distract from how utterly tragic everything else about the room is. Although the pattern does its job to disguise decades of wear and tear, it only seems to emphasize how dingy the no longer quite white table linens are.
Beneath dozens of can lights and a massively tacky plastic chandelier everything is far too bright, but at least there's a buffet conveniently catered by the all-you-can-eat chain restaurant next door. The food is a hodgepodge of cuisines. A few people grab a plate and give it a go, while a far larger majority pass in favor of the open bar. It's well cocktails and off brand beer, but the cheap booze still succeeds in making everything a little less terrible. Even the quartet of Victors roaming the room might find something to not hate once they've gotten a drink in their hands.
The meet-and-greet event isn't open to the general public. Many of those in attendance seem a little bit embarrassed to be here, ashamed about people finding out that they're more into child gladiator fighting than is considered to be socially acceptable. While each year the Hunger Games are slowly but surely gaining attention as something more than a gruesome betting opportunity, attendees are sheepish about asking for autographs or pictures with the Victors whose hands they shake a bit too enthusiastically. The peacekeepers and government officials amongst the crowd openly side eye that behavior, accepting their invitations more to mingle with each other for social connections than because of anything to do with Adder, Samiyuq, Babe, or Mohamed. At least there's enough stigma and distraction that the Victors are able to sidestep the crowd at times and truly meet each other for the first time, sharing whispered conversations whenever their handlers' backs are turned.—
Anyone is welcome to write as a Retro Capitolite (you do not need to bio a character for this, but if you would like to then bios may be posted here in the Retro Character Development board). This is an open thread for people to write with the Retro Victors. Separate threads may also be started for the event.
