teagan leto | two ; fin

It's already all the Panem Sports Network wanted to talk about, and there was still a month of preseason training to get through. He wiped a bead of sweat from his nose using his shoulder, since his hands were covered in oil and grease and dirt and all of the other components one might likely come across when rebuilding a motorcycle's engine. He kept his focus on the socket wrench, but couldn't help overhearing the segment as it began playing behind him.

"The Leto brothers were clear standouts from their pre-season team, but the entire District was shocked when the roster reveal included one, but not the other," a man's voice explained. Teagan ground his teeth at that.

"That's right Johnny," a woman's voice picked up, "Sixteen year old Teagan Leto will be on the starting lineup of the wolves this year, but big brother Dacre Dean apparently didn't make the cut!"

"Exactly," Johnny continued, "despite being two years older-"

A smear of black onto the power button as he switched it off. Turns out, he didn't have it in him to listen to it again. DD was a great player and the wolves were stupid for passing him over. Thankfully the Sharks were paying attention and saw Two drop the ball, and now he was off to play for District Four's team. And Teagan was still there in Two. Which meant that, inevitably, they'd have to face each other, which meant that the Capitol was painting them as lifelong arch rivals, when that wasn't the case.

Sure, there was some awkwardness because Teagan was younger and was therefore never supposed to be the best at anything, but he was a Leto, through and through. The one thing they all had in common was a narcissistic belief that they were each meant to do great things. His uncle was considered a war hero by the time he retired from peacekeeper work in Four. His cousin- not much older than him- was the one to bring down the Hailsham institute out there and she was still a student. He had a cousin who made top eight in the games, his Dad worked hard for everything he had and his mom had just gotten a book deal for her cookbook. If the biggest contribution Teagan could make was being naturally good at sports, it was a minor contribution. His success shouldn't have had to equal his brother's failure any more than his brother's success elsewhere should be diminished because it took him longer to find it.

He didn't feel the need to compete with his siblings, ever. Cat was always content to watch and DD had been the one to show Teagan how to play Exy in the first place. Of course, they would eventually have to play each other, that much was certain.

He tightened the last of the screws into place, turned the key, and listened as the engine sputtered for a moment before roaring to life. He couldn't stop the smile from curling onto his lips. If he was quick, he still had time to wash off and drive this bad boy to night practice.
