As a medic here in District Thirteen, I do a lot of looking after the citizens. Unfortunately, I have to look after myself, too, and I'm not all that good at taking the time that I need to be able to do so. My sister, Axel, tries to tell me that I need to not focus on work so much, and I always, in response, try to explain to her how important it is for me to focus on my work.
I'm vital to the survival of many of the people who live here in the District. Injuries, illnesses, you name it, I'm taking care of it. I do my very best to make sure that these people know that they're important. So many of them insist that they aren't, and that I should just let them suffer or die, but let me tell you, there's nothing I despise more than hearing someone say that they think that they aren't important.
Today, though, Axel finally convinced me to take the day off.
"You are important," she explained to me. "You need to take care of yourself sometimes, too. Remember that."
Reluctantly, I agreed with what she said, and took some time to decompress by wandering about in the atrium of District Thirteen for a little while. Eventually, I found myself sitting down, just watching the people go by. People-watching, for some reason, somewhat entertained me.
After a while of just sitting and watching, I decided to explore. I approached one of the vendors that was set up there, and started to browse what they had for sale. I picked something up that I couldn't quite identify, and looked around to see if anyone could help me. I ended up tapping on the shoulder of the person nearest to me.
"Do you have any idea what this happens to be?" I asked them, hoping that they would know and could give me a proper answer. I didn't like not knowing things. Then again, discovering new things was often a good time.
