Nora breaks down her tent in quiet chaos.
Her whole body feels like it's on fire, the wounds from yesterday coming apart at their seams, ripped open and bleeding all over again. "Someone should check the tree line, make sure there's no other's," she says, swallowing, pretending she's able to be more pragmatic than she is. There's something awful between her shoulders, a tension, a pressure that she doesn't know what to do with. She doesn't know how to make sense of anything, really, feels overwhelmed by how overwhelmed by everything she is, doesn't know where to start with getting over watching Willa cut off a creature's head while two others charged at her friends.
This, this place, these horrors, these are not the things that Nora is built for.
She's always been a girl who knew that she was capable of handling pressure, of handling the sort of things that make most people anxious. Standing in a crowded room. Making hard decisions. Nora, ever the pragmatist.
But this isn't that.
Here, she has a dead thing's blood drying on her face and she's breaking down a tent that she barely knew how to put together in the first place and—pause, inhale. One, two, three.
She breathes.
She can't start crying again. She can't. She has shit to do. She has a games to try and help everyone else win.
"I think I'm gonna go and wash off in the lake," she says suddenly, pushing up from her place on her knees. She abandons her task carelessly, just drops the knot she'd been trying to untie and walks away.
