County Fair Week Three - Hay Bale Toss

Leon has better shit to be doing.

He knows that it goes against the entire sentiment of the event, but he feels like some sort of kicked puppy being sent here and he hates that he has to admit that to himself. It makes his stomach roll, really, if he's being honest with himself. Markus thought that maybe Lena would show her face here, try and make inroads with Irvine or the other gaggle of mayors and wealthy cowboys.

He wonders if he was actually thinking about halting her business or if he was just pissed that Leon stopped him from going to see her during the damned riots.

Because really, the odds of her being here are slim. Things in the districts are still healing. Inter-district travel, no matter how appealing a business opportunity, was still an idea that could easily end in being stuck across the wrong border. You never knew. But that doesn't matter.

Because Leon knows. Markus cares about Lena. And not like he should.

And that needs his attention way more than a possible appearance from an heiress in District Ten, but orders are orders. So Leon walks around the fair, sips cider from disposable cups and flirts with the girl who hands him a cider donut and considers the carbs before going back for another. The announcer for the hay bale toss calls his name and Leon grimaces, hadn't really thought about how trying to participate and make the best of this very strange assignment meant announcing his presence to the place, but. There's something to be said for hindsight being twenty-twenty.
