It's not easy living a double life.

By day, she's Catherine, as her parents always insist on using her full name despite her preferences, because, quote, 'A cat's an animal, darling, and you are much too important to have anything in common with those mongrels.' (which, rude, the stray cats around the house were much better company than any esteemed guest they could come up with). Catherine is a distinguished daughter of the St. Clairs, a merchant family who set their roots in District Nine in the aftermath of the Dark Days as one of the few to own instead of be owned - and good lord did they let it go to their heads, if her parents are anything to go by.

By night, however? Night is when Catherine and all of her silks and jewels that her parents insist she wears are shed and Cat emerges in her stead. Cat is much more her style; there's no stuffy reputation to uphold, no last name that stifles each breath she takes, and no parents criticizing her for every toe that happens to step out of line. And if she uses this newfound anonymity to swipe some leftovers from her parents' extravagant galas (what? there's enough food there to feed the Capitol and there's never more than twenty guests over at one time!) and disperse it to the orphanages and shelters and street rats in her neighborhood, well, then that's not anyone's business but her own.

The old saying might be that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree - but in her case, she's more than willing to kick it an extra few dozen yards.
