Never did I think I'd be so successful.

Ah, fuck, who am I kidding? I always knew I'd grow to be this great and accomplished. Success has never been a mystery to me, rather, it's a given. I've always been the most successful person I knew, behind perhaps my parents until they were both brought to their respective untimely demises.

My father was assassinated by a man who claimed he stole his business idea, which he most certainly did, but it was never actually properly proven to the general public. The man who assassinated him ended up being turned into an avox by the Peacekeepers who caught him after the fact, and my father's name was never properly tarnished by the assassin's words, despite his best efforts.

My mother on the other hand, died in a supposed 'accident'. The people who were there claim that she was shot by mistake in a Peacekeeper's crossfire, but I know my mother too well to believe that. Undoubtedly the Peacekeeper did it on purpose.

Their kind— the men in their stupid bleach-white, Peacekeeper, riot-ready uniforms— had never particularly liked my mother. She'd done some things to toe the line of illegality, and none of them were all too fond of her for it. Then, one day, they came into her high-end boutique and she ended up dead. They claimed they were after a criminal who'd ducked into her boutique for cover and accidentally shot her instead, but I believe that the Peacekeeper who shot her did it on purpose.

This particular Peacekeeper and I aren't on good terms, and haven't been since my mother and he initially started to develop a distaste for one another. Then, after he killed her and I refused to believe his claim of it being an accident, we've been on even worse terms.

In my time, I've tried to get this man out of work, whether it be in an attempt to get him fired, or an attempt to get him killed. Usually I go for the latter. Now, I would never get my hands dirty with it myself, of course. I always hire others to do it for me. I have the money for those sorts of things, although I'll admit, the one thing in this world I must not have the eye for is a good assassin, because they've never been successful. It's really quite unfortunate.

One of these days, I'll get rid of him. He's always seemed to have this goal of trying to sabotage me, as well, likely because of his severe dislike for my mother. I'd even go so far as to say he hated her in her lifetime, and likely still hates her now, even after her death. Now, he's decided to take it out on the next generation. I would say that he'd likely try to do the same to my children after I'm gone, but I honestly don't think he'll survive that long, whether it be because of my endeavors or simply old age.

My children know to keep on their toes around Peacekeepers because of this man. Peacekeepers are absolutely not safe enough to trust. That's the first lesson that my children learned. They're Capitol sympathizers, and while we ourselves do not hate the Capitol, and actually appreciate them to an extent, we do not sympathize with them. They don't experience the same struggles as the people in even the wealthiest of Districts, and therefore do not deserve our pity, simply our attention.

I have four sons and one daughter. My family runs things a bit differently. The first born son typically inherits the father's business, while the first born daughter inherits the mother's. In the case of our family, however, it's my business and mine alone. My sons' father isn't in the picture anymore. So, when he left, I needed a daughter for the potential of inheriting my business when I'm gone.

That's why I did what I had to in order to conceive a daughter. I paid Mr. Visser Kandrona a large enough son of money and he assisted me in conceiving my daughter. We agreed never to communicate again after the fact, and his other children as well as my sons have no idea who the father of my daughter is. I was lucky enough that we didn't have to try more than once.

Now, I run my business with the confidence that when I'm gone, my daughter will be there to inherit it. I'm a fashion designer, and I produce the highest of high-end fashion in District One. Anyone who's anyone buys from Terrence Clothiers. The brand is a household name in District One, and we're the ones who made it that way. Well, I suppose my grandmother was truly the one who started it all, but I've made it bigger and better than ever before.

While I was growing up, my mother owned the brand, and she had just as much of an eye for fashion as my grandmother. I think it's in our blood. Oh, and I think I should mention something, given the name Terrence Clothiers. The women in my family keep their own surnames when they get married. We don't want the men in our family taking that name away from us. It's important to us, and erasing it just wouldn't make sense.

I would like to think that I have just as much of if not more of an eye for fashion that my mother did. Although, her abilities are quite tough to beat, so she's the one person that I will admit may possibly have been a bit better than me at what I do. I truly don't think anyone alive could outshine me, though. Some people say I'm overly confident, but I think I'm just the right amount of confident. If you underestimate yourself, you're just getting ready for the failures in your life.

If I don't believe I can fail, it's a hell of a lot less likely to happen.

My parents were both raised in wealthy households. I was raised in a wealthy household, and it's the same way for my children. The only difference between my children's lives growing up and my parents' lives growing up is that they don't have a father in the picture, whereas my parents did. I think that's just fine, though. I'm an independent woman. I'm strong and I can take care of myself perfectly fine. I'd like to think I'm capable enough of taking care of my children on my own, too. That, and they're quite responsible themselves at their ages now, so I wouldn't put it past them to be able to mostly be okay on their own. Of course, they wouldn't have nearly as much money on their own, but that's beside the point.

Growing up, my parents were a bit distant at times, due to being quite busy with their entrepreneurial ventures, but I still feel that they raised me right. They raised a confident and independent woman who knows what she wants in life and knows exactly how to achieve it, too. I'm no damsel in distress. If anything, I'm the woman putting the competition in distress.

Who am I kidding: competition? No one can truly compete with me.
