The grass felt bouncy under my feet, different to the manicured lawns that scattered district 1. Here weeds and other wild flowers sprouted in uneven patches, where back home weeds were non-existent. Gardens were designed with a perfectionists hand, not one petal out of place. There was a peacefulness about the landscape, especially after the chaos of the bloodbath. But it would be a mistake to think that peaceful feeling would last, I was sure that by the time the sun rose on the second day the grass would be stained with blood, the resting place for a fellow tribute or two.
The river was large, water crystal clear providing a window to the sea creatures below. There was something alluring about the water, something medallic about the gentle lap of the waves against the boulders, and had it of been another day, another time, I might have stripped off my clothing and taken a dip. But not today, today I slink along the edge, carefully observing my surroundings as I watched for fellow tributes, for anything that might be advantageous to myself and Alpha and even Cachi.
A quick search of the riverbed, near the base of a wooden bridge, reveals a talon styled knife that I tuck into my belt. The bridge allowed for easy access to the other half of the arena, and for a moment I debate whether my options for continuing my search or heading back to find the others. The sun has started its descent, which meant night fall would be upon us, and no doubt bring upon us a nightmare that I would not rather face alone.
Sighing, I begin my retreat, making my way back towards the tavern. "Alpha? Cachi?" I whisper, as I round the back of the building, towards the place that I had left them. "Alpha?" No response. Good. Peeking in through the window I notice the room to be empty, and I hoped that my allies had taken my advice, seeking out the trap door, because that was exactly what I was about to do.
Taking a deep breath, I hold my sword out before me as I push open the tavern doors and slip into the darkening room. I was alone, and I don't waste much time lingering in the corner, quickly making myself towards the place I had spotted the trapdoor during the bloodbath. Crouching down I place my sword on the ground along the edge of the door, before yanking it open. The darkness was unnerving, but with a deep breathe I snatch up my sword and disappearing into its depths, allowing the door to fall closed behind me.
"Alpha? Cachi?" I try again, whispering into the darkness, one hands trailing against the wall, the other clutching my sword. Still, there was no response, and I quicken my pace, the light at the end of the tunnel glowing red with the sinking sun. Picking up my pace I burst into the light to see to be faced with a giant rock face, ragged rocks only broken my a small entrance into their depth. The entrance seemed to glow, a pale blue that was enticing, begging me to draw closer, to ignore the warning sign displayed at the caves entrance.
I peek my head in, "Oi! Farmer boy!" I wait for a response, "hello?"
I swear to Ripred, if Cachi had managed to get lost on day one, I would kill him myself.
