His grip around her neck loosens as her thrashing ceases. Brody can feel the last breath she takes, laden with water and imbibed with pure, unadulterated hatred. He shakes her one more time for good measure before releasing her unto the river.

The canon fires.

He smiles.

He watches as she's fished out of the river like a trout and lifted into the air, but his happiness burns away. Slowly. A morning fog meeting the summer sun, hot and cold and dissipating.

Tune's voice echoes, bounces off the deep recesses of his mind.

I die. She stays dead. They all do.

She was fucking right and he hates her for it. If he hadn't already strangled the life right out of her, he'd want to do it again and again and again. Just because of that simple little fact.

Brody feels worse now, not better. And it's a foreign feeling, this is. Caring. Hating. None of these emotions are in the shades of black and white he's so used to - so comfortable with. Everything is gray and swirling and molding together, overlapping each other and twisting his thoughts.

Anger and sadness hold hands in his chest. They yank and pull and tug at his heart, back and forth, over and over. What the fuck is he supposed to do now? He had a mission. Kill Tune Walker. Avenge Alice. 

He did. He had. Now what?
