The words slip off of split lip, hitting the ground below like falling venom as he limps away from the fight, spear in hand and life so heavy on his fingertips.
He'd been aiming for Brody Loomis's neck.
There's still dried blood on the tip of his weapon, stalagmite coated with the four he's put in their own coffins, thrust forward with the little bits of strength he can hardly muster, pointing towards the void and watching it point back towards him. He'd expected the boy to twist on his heels once more, step backwards into the shadows and dodge the strike as Tex had stumbled forwards, it's why shock had carved through the anger on his face if only for a moment, feeling the tip of his spear land heavy in the eye socket of Brody's mask, something squishy, blood and something sinister sticking to the end when he'd finally wrenched it out again.
He hadn't made it far before the adrenaline had seeped from his wounds in waves of red once more, bloody handprint pressed into a nearby tree and painful gasps clawing their way up his throat. His own body fights itself as he sits there, back pressed to a rotting stump and heart to dying chest. With shaking hands he counts the purple vials left clasped against his waist, glasses full and glasses emptied and not enough remaining for his liking. There are bloody fingerprints left against them when he finally pulls away and sighs, shaking in his own pain. Three left, just enough to get him through the night, for him to stumble into morning without the ghosts that claw their way through the forest.
It's sinister, the way he can see them dancing in the shadows around him, the way they threaten to close in at any moment, as soon as the purple flees from his veins and his eyes can finally see anything other than red. He knows what will come of him then. It terrifies him.
Bloodied body, broken heart, a boy falling apart looks to the sky and waits to see purple and red-
and waits-
and waits-
Until it never comes.
