The summer day seemed like the kind that started to many of the old books Christopher read. The light wind brushed against him, bringing the taste of sea salt from nearby. The sun was high in the sky and Christopher kept cool by sitting under his favorite oak tree. He recently finished two paintings and couldn't help but feel pride in his accomplishments. Combined with all of that and the good-sized lunch he had, Christopher couldn't help but feel a sense of peace over him wherever he went. He leaned against the sturdy oak that had been there since he was little rested his eyes. A nap might be the best thing to top off his happy day.
Christopher didn't know how long it was before he awoke. it was still daylight, but the wind that had originally lulled him to sleep had ceased. After a yawn, Christopher noticed the ladybug on his dark blue shorts. Christopher smiled at the small bit of life. Since he became an artist, he noticed how fragile life was, how delicate life was for some, but how easy some life was preserved. He allowed the ladybug to crawl onto his thin finger. It stayed there for a moment in indecision, then flew off.
After the small bit of life left Christopher in peace, he noticed someone coming his way. It was one of his brothers. It had to be Caleb, since the other had gone swimming with friends for the day. Christopher waved at him and smiled. Spending some time with his brother would be nice. It took him a minute to realize something was wrong with his usually relaxed sibling. He looked...strained. Something was bothering him.
