For Vail, a girl of great expression, it was not hard to pinpoint her favorite time of the year. In fact, there was hardly even a choice, the holiday season. The end of the year always was the best time to her, the feeling of joy circulating effortlessly throughout the chilled air, especially when it snowed, it made the beautiful young women feel overjoyed. How the merry of the season escaped anyone was a mystery to this girl, she even went out of her way to make sure people were feeling good about themselves. That being said, she would not give any money away, people needed to work for that. She would bring honest cheer to people through her actions, but as soon as people asked for money, she knew they were not getting it and left them to their own sorrow.

Over the recent days, there had been a snowfall in the Capitol. There had been many before, but Vail struggled to remember the last time it happened Christmas week. Refraining from playing in the snow on the street was hard enough for the girl, she instead enjoyed it on her balcony. In Vail's mind, the snow and her fit together just as much as her girlfriend and her did. The snow was beautiful just like Vail, and the snow was free flowing, so was Vail. The snow was almost too much for the girl to handle in terms of joy, but she overcame this pointless struggle and just continued to enjoy herself.

The holiday's were a busy time for this girl as well, especially since her family was hosting a party this year. Because she was now a young adult, she offered to be the one in charge of the planning. Vail thought that the planning would be easy enough, but there she was wrong. Unlike when her parents planned parties, thing would not just appear when she wanted them to. She actually had to give orders to the Avox's, tell them what they needed to cook, how to set up; the decorations that she had to buy! It was a crazy to her that all of this planning had to go into an event that would last no longer than four hours. She had to keep up her promise for the sake of reputation, and she believed that people would think highly of her for planning such a great event. It would all be worth it in the end, so she assumed.

Before anyone even arrived at the wonderful and massive Greene apartment, she was checking to make sure everything was in its proper place. The bedrooms were locked with everything of sentimental value to the family inside. Decorations were all up, making the residency look like a slightly smaller version of the city circle. Much like the circle, ice sculptures (how they were not melting, Vail did not know) were spread throughout her house, it was truly amazing. If she had not been there for the planning, Vail would have hardly recognized this place as where she lived her whole life. The only thing outdoing the sculptures was the Christmas tree, decorated with lights and a star on top. She loved this, every second of it.

"Oh, this is wonderful!" she exclaimed to herself. Surely everyone of her friends would be proud of her for creating such a beautiful environment, not surprised though. Surely her friends though of her as a smart young women, not an incapable failure. She was sure that they would be proud that she actually was wearing something longer than a short skirt, the red dress she was wearing actually covered a good portion of her body (it still ended far above her knees). This party was going to be the best one ever thrown by the Greene's, she was sure of it.

OOC: Because Kay is busy with the Games and all that stuff (go Mace!) and asked for someone to help out, I did. So yeah, basically, this is just a start to getting this back active again, so please post. Also, don't like, go off on a huge two person back and forth thing, that can be done in two person threads. There is no posting order, but just be courtesy, I guess that is what I'm trying to say.

It had been a strange year for July. She'd learned something about herself, or rather just come to accept it, when a boy of all things walked into her world. And she couldn't deny that things were better with Christoph in her life. He was... pleasant. More than that, but she wasn't sure she could invest more than what pleasantness implied. It was widely known that they were dating, but it was a totally different thing to actually wrap her mind around that fact. She was dating a boy who she liked, sure, but definitely did not, ever ever, want to bed. It was almost a repulsive thought, one that yanked at her gut and made her lips purse, which was doubly bad because she wasn't supposed to twist her face up any more, or she'd ruin some of the careful work done there.

Sure, she still acted the part of girlfriend, the intimacy stuff notwithstanding. She'd bought him a fabulous Christmas gift - she just needed to find a time to give it to him. Tonight, maybe at Vail's, but she hadn't exactly invited him. If he was there, then that was a sign. If he wasn't, well, there would be booze, and July didn't need much else these days.

She prepped carefully, spending most of the early evening in her closet before moving to the bathroom. In the end she'd come up with something both tame and wild. It was red, which worked for the holidays, and it was asymmetrical, which was totally trendy. She went with a more neutral look for her hair and makeup. Blown out blonde with just a touch of true gold. Subtle, but July really hoped someone would notice. She dashed lip gloss across, tugged at her stubborn eyelashes, and snuck a bottle of wine into her purse. It would get her into trouble later, because as the third and last daughter, she couldn't pull any punches with her parents. But it would be worth it.

She said not a word as she left her house and walked to the Greene's apartment. It was cold, bitter, and she wished the government would figure out a way to heat all the streets, not just the ones near the President's house. July hitched the purse tight under her arm, thoroughly annoyed by the chilly weather and the bulk at her side by the time she rang Vail's doorbell. She didn't even wait for it to be fully open before she put her palm to it and pushed. "Yeah, hi. This is for you, but really for all of us, right?" She pressed her lips together into a rough smile, eyes traveling around the apartment. "Nice." And it was just the right tone, somewhere between approval and condescension.

"Devyni!"

Devyni finished the sentence he was on before looking up. "Yes?" he said, voice even shorter than usual. His mother should know better than to interrupt him while he was reading. He would ignore her, if he didn't know that she would just keep talking to him. Unspoken house law required her to stay outside the boundaries of his room unless he invited her, but that didn't mean she wouldn't stand there chattering away until he cracked.

"Krysta says that there's a Christmas party today."

Devyni lowered his book the rest of the way and raised his eyebrows. Christmas party? That felt like an oxymoron. He always associated Christmas with sentimental things like happiness and family and love and good will, which were nowhere in his description of parties. Stressful, noisy things that he was happier without and, it seemed, was about to reject an invitation to. Instantly.

Even if it was Christmas-themed.

Unfortunately for Devyni's resolve, sixteen years of knowing each other had given Sawa plenty of practice at sensing shifts in her son's mood. Frequent absence had kept her from achieving his sister's proficiency at it, but she knew enough to pounce on his pause. "It's at Vail's house," she said. "I know you don't get along with some of them, but you like her, don't you?"

Devyni pursed his lips a little. Sometimes he wished he could tell her why he had withdrawn so abruptly, but that wasn't an option. Enough people had probably heard the story from Marco as it was; no need to draw anyone else into his business, even family. Besides, he didn't think it was something he could talk about.

Unsurprisingly, his mother misinterpreted the look, taking it as confirmation. "See? You should go, Devyni. It'll make her happy."

Devyni was not a nice person. This was well-known to everyone who interacted with him, including himself. But he was never mean by choice, only by social ineptitude, and when presented with a clear-cut way to do something nice for someone who had once treated him like a friend, he couldn't bring himself to resist—especially since it was something he already half wanted to do. It would make his family happy, too; all three of them were constantly trying to push him out of the house. "When?"

Sawa smiled slowly. "Soon. Krysta planned to leave in twenty minutes or so."

Lovely. More warning would have been nice. Krysta had probably asked their mother to wait until the last minute so that he wouldn't have time to rethink the decision. Tucking a bookmark into his novel, Devyni eased himself off the bed. "Felix?"

"You want him along?"

He did, actually—for whatever reason, things tended to feel safer when the family avox was around. But he didn't want anyone to press Felix, so he shrugged indifferently.

"I'll ask if he wants to come."

As his mother slipped out of the room, Devyni glanced over his outfit. Lurking in the words "Christmas party" was an implication that he ought to wear something festive, but he had no idea where to start with that. His jeans and grey t-shirt certainly didn't fit, but he didn't own anything that was both Christmas-related and formal. If this was even a formal occasion. Was it? If he got it wrong, he would never hear the end of it from his sister, never mind what he would have to listen to some of the partygoers say. Not that he cared what anyone thought about his clothing, but not listening to people subtly insult him would make the afternoon far more pleasant.

Huffing a bit in frustration—he hadn't had to deal with this sort of thing in months—Devyni settled on switching to black slacks and throwing on a red sweater, along with the obligatory brush of his hair. Dilemma resolved, he grabbed his wallet, keys, and novel and fled, hoping to get out of the house before Krysta saw him and made him change or leave behind the book. She would be put out with him for not waiting to leave together, but the last thing he wanted was for them to arrive together. Anyone who wanted to greet his sister as she came in might drag him into the conversation, and he was hoping to slip in as painlessly as possible.

In what he hoped was a good omen for the rest of the evening, he made it and even managed to get himself on the path to the Greene's without more than a few seconds' hesitancy about directions. Buoyed by the chill in the air and the cheerily decorative streets, his good mood lasted the entire walk.

As soon as Vail's apartment came into his line of sight, it evaporated. For the first time, Devyni regretted his hasty departure. If he had waited, he would not be arriving at the same time as July Jacquez.

Devyni took a deep breath that condensed in front of him. He focused on that instead of July as he slowed his pace to a near-crawl, pretending that he could push his tension out with the carbon dioxide. It didn't work; when he reached the door, mere steps behind July despite his attempt to let her get inside and start talking before he even knocked, his entire body was still taught with apprehension.

Her voice drifted out through the closing door. One more deep breath, and Devyni reached out a hand to stop the door and slip through. "Hello Vail, July. Nice to see you both."

White. That was the color of his walls. He sighed; everything was so clean in his room. It was a guest room so it was expected to be that way, but he enjoyed it that way. All he ever carried with him was his clothes and few sentimental objects that he had brought with him. Things that were easily concealed in the closet, and although he had the choice to buy more stuff and make it feel more roomy he couldn't bring himself to change anything. If a person had closed the closet doors it would appear as if nobody lived in that room at all.

Felix had the choice to do anything for the next couple of days. He figured that he would spend most of his time doing avox things even though the Auksas' were giving him the holiday off. He would help in anyway possible, unless it involved being around others. He wasn't comfortable with any thing that really had to deal with Christmas. Majority, if not all, of his time was spent staring out the windows and painting, or sketching. The colors of the Christmas season always seemed to give Felix muse in one way, shape, or form.

He still gave in to the occasional trip to the market place with Sawa and Sonia to go and buy Krysta and Devyni gifts. He was also the one wrapping the presents considering Sawa and Sonia never had enough time to. He enjoyed it otherwise. He would also go to the Market place with Krysta and Devyni to buy gifts for who ever they felt like buying for. Either way things went Felix didn't mind being the one watching over things, wrapping gifts, or taking things over to people as long as people still told him what to do and never got too close.

It wasn't that he didn't like the warm feelings that accompanied the holiday season. Everything just reminded him of his mother, and his sisters. He often wondered where they were at and if they thought of him as often as he thought of them. Quietly, he shifted, glanced at the clock, and took out a sketchbook. He was drawing Krysta's face when excited. Her dimples showing whenever she smiled, and her eyes so vibrant and full of joy unlike his own which told of a sorrowful past.

He was interrupted by a light knocking at his door. He looked up and saw Sawa standing there in his doorway. Never passing the invisible line that seperated his room to the hallway. Often times he thought that she was scared to even come near him considering the reason why he was avoxed.

“Felix,” she paused ever so slightly before continuing as if she was contemplating what she was going to say next, “There's a Christmas party at the Vail's house tonight. I was wondering if you would like to go.” Her eyes darted away from Felix and to her own soft hands connecting with each other in front of her body.

She continued on with a pause between the two sentences, “Both Krysta and Devyni are going.” Felix's ears perked up and he looked back at her. He stared at her looking at her body language and trying to interpret what she was trying to say other wise. He could feel a sense of worry and both fear coming from her. He had seen it often whenever she spoke with Felix. He knew that Devyni wasn't the type of person to go ahead and visit with those people, or at least that's what he had noted.

“Felix?” She spoke, her tone softer than it had been before. Up until this time he wasn't originally going to go, but the sound of her voice. His mother's voice intertwined with Sawa's voice. It yanked on his heart strings and it made him wish he was dead.

“Please go? You know how crazy teenagers can get, and you also know that I care about Devyni and Krysta.” She was pratically forcing Felix to go, but he could tell that even though he didn't admit it he secretly wanted to also. To watch over Devyni and Krysta both, that was what he was there for right? To make sure that nothing bad happened to them.

Without a single thought Felix nodded reassuringly and Sawa smiled only a little bit. Felix looked up at her eyes while he got off of his bed. Their eyes met. The creases underneath her eyes showed aging, and the light dusting of eyeshadow was brushed upon her upper-lids. Her eyes were a light brown that could be mistaken for his own mother's eyes, and through those eyes he could tell that she was grateful she had gotten Felix instead of some other avox. No words were transferred as she left but Felix could see her saying thank you a million times over.

Felix stared at the door frame for a moment, letting his smile fall, refocusing himself. His eyes moved from the door frame to his own feet. Without even comprehending it he from the spot he was standing at near his bed and shut his door. It was then that he realized that he was all alone in his room. Nobody to bother him at all or so he would assume. Of course all the Auksas' would knock before entering but he could also tell that others were watching him. Others like his father or his mother, the only two that he knew were truly dead. He walked to the only window in his room and looked outside. A single figure leaving the house, who he assumed was Devyni. A light snow was falling and he had noted a light dusting of snow was collecting on the sidewalks. I'll be with you soon enough

Felix turned to his closet and looked around for his best Christmas outfit. Looking for the dark green vest and the red tie that Krysta insisted he wear to the Christmas party. Before he didn't know what she meant by that but now he did, or she might of meant the family Christmas party. Either way he could wear it for both days. Quickly Felix took off the brown hoodie that he was wearing, and put on a white dress shirt and the green vest. He smiled and took out a small box that was meant for Devyni. It was a hot chocolate pin that Krysta had seen Felix eyeing. She went ahead and bought it for him. Secretly he was thinking of giving it to Devyni instead of keeping it. He pinned it to the dark green vest he was wearing and figured he would give it to Devyni at the party when gifts were being exchanged.

Within the minute or two it took Felix getting ready he assumed that Devyni had already had made it there, and he would have to remember where Vail's apartment is at alone or he could wait for Krysta but that would be slightly awkward considering she might not like the idea of Felix coming along with her to the party. Besides he was sure when Krysta wouldn't want Felix there to watch over her and spoil her fun.

Felix sighed and reopened up his door. Wearing a christmas tree themed hat, reindeer themed fingerless gloves, black dress shoes, black dress pants, white dress shirt, dark green vest with hot chocolate pin, and the bright red tie. He didn't really mind always wearing formal clothes. It actually made him feel important and special somewhat like a butler except his tongue was cut out. Before he left outside in the cold he grabbed a light brown trench coat with buttons on it. He buttoned up his trench coat, and protected his sketchbook and notepad as best as he could and headed outside into the chilly evening.

The street lights were just beginning to turn on, and he had no idea which way to go. He knew he had been to Vail's apartment before he just needed to remember how to get there, and the getting back part would be fairly simple because he would have Devyni to follow. All he had to do was find his way there before Krysta got there. Otherwise Devyni would ask Krysta where he would be at and when Devyni found out Felix wasn't there he would freak out, and could very easily get lost himself.

Felix looked in the direction that he thought he saw Devyni turn to. Luckily when he looked down at his feet he saw foots steps that could possibly aid him in finding Vail's apartment. Quietly before continuing on he thanked the snow this year, rubbed his hands together, and started on his journey.

After a couple minutes or so of trying to follow Devyni's footsteps, and taking a few wrong turns he finally found the apartment building he was looking for. He entered inside and looked around for a listing of apartment owners, but when he found none he just went down the hallway on the first floor. He stopped at the apartment number eight. He hoped that they would know where Vail lived. He reached out to knock, being the polite gentleman he was. Only to wait a moment and find himself looking right at Devyni. All Felix could do was wave and smile.[/blockquote][/size]
