It was perfect, when her lips met his it showed that he wasn't wrong in his affection. He could have stayed there forever because all the people around him made no difference, Renn was the only person that mattered. It wasn't a long kiss, and she broke away and looked at him expectantly. He was unsure of exactly why, but the look said that it was for something important. He looked around and saw some of the people looking at the two of them; some of the looks weren't friendly. Not that he could blame them, he had just left a bloody guy in the middle of the street, had almost killed him actually. Than it dawned on him, with all the comotion the Peacekeepers were bound to have noticed something was wrong. If they came along there would be to many questions, to many questions he didn't even know the answers to. It would have been okay if it was just him, his family would bail him out, but he couldn't have Renn get in trouble, especially since her real family was on the other side of the district. He scanned the street searching for a way out of the situation. The crowds were tightly packed going up and down the streets as far as he could see, apparently this had caused more of a scene than intended. He had an idea of where they could go to hide until things calmed down, but the problem was in getting there.
Than idea formed in his head, it may make the problem worse or it might be there ticket out of here and away from the scene. He glanced down at Renn who looked in even worse shape than him. There was no way he would let her walk all that way, but with his arm injured how could he carry her. He bit his lip in concentration causing a drop of blood to form on it and came to a decision. Taking in a large breath he picked Renn up in his arms, the pain was intense, but he was willing to bare it for her. Carrying her to a bar near where they were standing he went in and scanned the room. Next to the door was a man who could play the part for his plan. With a few coins and an explanation the man agreed to help. Xander exited and walked into the crowd and waited for the signal. Right on cue the man yelled out for the crowds to hear that the Peacekeepers were coming. Chaos broke loose as the crowds attempted to disperse so they wouldn't be questioned, and Xander moved along with the crowd towards the center of the city. He looked down at Renn and who still looked in bad shape, and whispered to her.
I know where we can go to tend to our wounds Renn, it's not far now. Just don't faint on me, stay with me okay.
Really the words were meant as encouragement to himself. His own consciousness was wavering as he moved through the twisted streets of the district. Just when the pain seemed as if it would rip his arm off he saw his destination, it was an old appartment building on one of the formerly busy streets of the district. It had long since been abandoned for the newer parts of the district which suited him fine. He walked in and placed Renn down on a couch in the middle of the room, and turned on the lights. It was not a shabby place by any means, well furnished and meeting all the standards of living. Out of exhaustion and blood loss he slumped to the floor next to Renn. The world was going black as he faded in and out of consciousness, and he whispered up to Renn.
Welcome to my home away from home Renn. I took over this place when my family got to much to bear. I come here every now and again when I want to be alone, but now it can be our place, for when we want to get away. I'm sorrythat I...didn't get to you faster...I should never have...let you...go...I should have protected you.
With those words still fading away he allowed himself to finally give in and pass out. It was sweet relief from the pain that was coursing through him, and the last thing he saw was Renn's face which made him smile.
