[/center]It was humiliating, really: looking back at the child she had been months ago, back when she had thought life was defined by the labels others gave her. Monstrous, weak, immature, ominous--[/i] they had all seemed to fluctuate, each coming from a different origin of mindsets. She hadn't realized though, until quite a while later, just how easily she could rip that label from it's existence. She wasn't an “Allade” anymore.[/i] Instead, she lived in a household where pure ruthlessness was valued to an undeniably dynamic extent. She didn't need any more self-pity; not now that she could pick and choose which labels she wanted to keep and which ones she wanted to toss out. She had it all, the chances standing before her in a line that reached as far as the district's borders. [/i]Now, she had no reason for distractions or doubts: nothing she wasn't capable of overcoming.

In fact, she had been so close:[/i] so very close to volunteering for the games. Still, Kiera had gotten to the spot first, and now the two words still hung tightly to Emery's lips, merely awaiting their release.[/i] She hadn't even given a thought to Rolex in those few moments during the reaping, and quite thankfully, she was glad the words hadn't escaped. At the same time, though, nothing meant more to Emery than the games. She wasn't going to let her intense training go to waste. Everything she'd worked for? No, she just couldn't. [/i]Emery was done playing victim. All those years she took the bait that signaled Aaron's sick little games were over, and she was fully prepared to suppress those memories. [/i]She wanted to administer the controls, and that, she promised herself, she would very much do.

Bringing a towel through her wet hair, Emery gave her very last attempt at drying it before grabbing her bag and heading out of the girl's locker room. She exited the gym, making her way out onto the streets. The gym was like her second home now;[/i] for the last several weeks, she'd spent every ounce of her free time launching arrows and throwing spears. Even the time outside of her parents' specially designed training schedule, she kept at it. Besides, she was usually better off working on her own.[/i]

Emery felt a burning sensation in her arms, but the reality caused her to smile. She was only getting stronger by the days. [/i]Several months ago, she'd completely humiliated herself in front of Rolex, unable to even hold up a sword; but now, these kinds of things were rather habitual. It would all pay off, she promised herself. [/i]Someday, all of this hard work, this extreme lack of rest, and this monstrous transformation would have it's rewards. At least, that's what her parents said. [/i]

Exhausted, Emery let her feet lead the way. It was late, the sun barely peeking above the horizon and whispering it's last goodbye before the silence.[/i] Her parents wouldn't worry, and if they did, it was at least worth it. Instead of walking home, her feet led her in the opposite direction, towards the single house she'd secretly yearned to visit as she tossed knife after knife at the target each day. Because of the week's intense training, she hadn't kept in very good contact. At this point, she didn't care if Rolex was an unhealthy distraction, just another subject to take her mind off of training. Maybe he was; and that wasn't necessarily a bad thing. [/i]

Finally having reached his house, Emery took the few steps to the door and then knocked. “Rolex,” she said, assuming he most likely wouldn't hear. “It's me.” It was usually his house or the training center where they met up; Emery had, in fact, never given Rolex her address, for good reason too. Her family didn't know. They couldn't know.[/i] Moreno's weren't typically supposed to fall in love.

Emery stared at the door in front of her as she waited patiently for it to swing open. It reminded her of when Rolex had knocked on her own door, back during the Olympics, and how she had never come to open it, how instead she'd let her anger get the best of her.[/i] Emery cringed at her many mistakes that day, hoping ever so desperately that Rolex didn't judge her by those past occurrences that she couldn't quite erase. She was stronger now; just not strong enough to let go of love.[/i] Emery had changed in every way possible since the very first time she met Rolex and since the very first time she had walked into the Moreno household. Yet, not a single word had slipped from time's lips.[/i] She really hadn't changed at all.

He was on the edge of sleep, that moment when he could hear everything that was going on but was not awake enough to do anything about it. Not that there was much to do, or much he cared to do. It was a moment where time seemed to hold it's breath, and there was something in his mind that told him that if he didn't open his eyes, time was going to give him a hard jab in the side. Letting out a long, almost exasperated, sigh, he opened his eyes to stare at the pale ceiling above him. He yawned, not bothering to cover his mouth, no one was there to see so what did it matter, and stretched. His arms over his head, he linked his hands and pressed them up, a faint click coming from his left shoulder. Lowering his arms, he sat up, sending the covers sliding off of his bed and baring his nearly naked body, being that he only wore boxers to sleep in.

He glared half-hearted at his covers and got up, grabbing them up and tossing them hap-hazardously on his bed. Another sigh came from him as he looked around the room, thinking about nothing in particular. When he noticed the clock he found it interesting to see that it was nearly noon. Most of the time his parents would wake him up by at least ten because they tried to rush him off to training, odd that they didn't do so today. Not that he minded, really, he had been up late wondering about Emery. It had been nearly a week since he had talked to her, and it was beginning to bother him. He wasn't angry, but worried, wondering whether he had done something wrong and driven her away. Last night it had really caught up to him and he had begun thinking of everything that had just gone wrong the last time he had seen her. Most of it was probably invented by his mind because of his worry but he didn't know what to think.

He wondered if he would finally see Emery today, perhaps if he hurried to get to the gym. She might still be there, he knew how she liked to get in early. She had always told him it was because her parents liked to do activities with the kids in the afternoons, and thus she couldn't stay much past noon. The problem was, in the mornings he often had lessons with his trainer, and so they rarely were able to train together. Even thinking of her now brought up the tightness in his chest, just under his collarbone, worry he supposed. It made him pause, made him take a moment to breathe deep in order to push it away. He couldn't go on like this, he had to find out what was going on, even if he had to ask the whole town in order to find where she lived. It shouldn't be too hard, she was a Moreno after all. The Morenos were so well known that it probably wouldn't take too long for him to learn which house was theirs.

He went over to his drawers, opening the bottom one to reveal socks and numerous different leg wrap and braces. Training was tough, and he had taken it tougher than most. When he was younger he had been more sensitive about his short stature, and had worked harder than every other Career in order to overcome that. He had been successful, but it had cost him. Numerous times he had had to limp home in some kind of brace, and he had broken bones five times in his life. The old saying "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" was the argument he used to convince his friends and trainer that he was alright, and that he would be fine to continue. His parents never tried to get him to stop, or at least slow down. They didn't care about him, just their stupid family pride.

He grabbed a pair of socks and pulled them on, balancing on one foot as he pulled the sock over the other. His balance was good enough that he only hopped a couple times, never in any real danger of falling over. He had just pulled on his second sock when a knock sounded from the front door. He wondered who it could be, then shrugged and decided to let his parents get it. When the house stayed silent, he realized that his parents weren't home. That explained why they hadn't woken him. It was then that he heard the small voice call up to him. "Rolex, it's me." His breath caught as he instantly recognized it. It was Emery. That must mean that he hadn't done anything too stupid. Or maybe he had and she was just here to tell him that she was done. Either way, he just wanted to see her again.

He was about to rush out of his room and down the stairs to let her in when he remembered that he was only in boxers and socks. Nearly laughing at himself, and then blushing faintly at the thought of Emery seeing him like this, he grabbed a pair of shorts and pulled them on, yanking a belt from his closet and starting to thread it through the loops of his shorts as he rushed downstairs. He reached the door as he pulled the end of the belt through the last loop and then unlocked the door and opened it hurriedly. He could only smile as he saw her, look into her eyes as she stood there on his doorstep. Then all he could do was stare at her in embarrassment as he realized in his hurry he had neither done up the front of his shorts, nor his belt. Blushing, he did so, doing up the button and zipper on his shorts and then finishing with his belt.

The sheepish grin on his face was as much explanation as was needed, and he looked down at his feet. Not only did he have no shirt on, but he had very nearly had no pants either. He got so forgetful when she was around. "Uh..." he couldn't keep his eyes off the floor, completely abashed, "hi."

Other: Sorry about the ridiculous wait, first I was grounded and then I went on holiday. Hope this suffices for it. And I like the idea of a few months later, makes their plot move along a bit.

I can feel the nonexistent rain as it hits my shoulders, both a sense of relief and a sense of excitement drowning my insides. It's only a slight drizzle at first, but the droplets become heavier and heavier. I look up at the sky; there's not a cloud to be seen, the sun sitting so confidently in the very center of the sky. I look at my shoulder. It isn't wet, although more accurately, I really should be feeling snow, not rain. I could've sworn...

The door opens and I have to suppress the snicker that threatens to escape me, yet I'm melting at the same time, even in the bitter cold outdoors. I'm always melting when I see Rolex, yet this time he doesn't even have a shirt on, and his pants aren't zipped. Now this is hardcore melting. “Uh, hi,” he says. I don't think he even notices until the shadow of a grin crosses my face. The moment it does, the rain is pouring and I'm positively soaked in the joy of seeing Rolex again. I haven't smiled since the last time I saw him. For the past month or so, I think that's been about the pattern. Desperately try to suppress any thought of Rolex and remain about as hard as a rock, then see Rolex, drown in smiles, and try to eliminate any thought of the Moreno life. It's just how it goes.

My smile is a raincloud. I used to hate the rain back when I was in the community home. I despised the thunderstorms, because they wouldn't let the kids outside, and so instead, we'd all be crammed into the tiny building we all hated. I sat in the corner, and I wasn't the only one. Most of the kids there were messed up in their own unique manner, considering their wild pasts, but the fact that we all had such deeply contrasting problems only pulled the majority of us our separate ways. Rain had such a negative connotation back then. So did many words. Words like home could be warming to some people, nostalgic to others, and even scary or devastating. Home in my mind? It's had many meanings. In the same respect, rain has had various connotations also, and for right now, rain is the most comforting feeling. Yes, feeling.

It rained the day I met Rolex, and now, my smile reigns too. I save my smile for moments like these, moments when I really want to use it. They make the moments I spend with Rolex seem even more special. This particular raincloud of a smile has been collecting water for much too long; the storm is inevitable. Thunder rattling the thoughts in my head, lightning illuminating my eyes—I love storms, especially these, these moments when I get to finally come alive. Letting the grin stretch a bit further across my face, I watch Rolex turn red as he begins zipping up his pants. I gently put my hand on his, stopping him before he gets much accomplished.

“You don't have to,” I smirk, mischief quite too evident in my eyes. I bite my lip, but it isn't a nervous habit like it was when I first met Rolex. Actually, it's suggestive; but I like it. Who is this new girl? I like her too. I move closer to Rolex until there's nothing left between us except for the belt he's still got in his hands. Moving my hand away from his zipper hand, I take the belt and toss it to the ground beside us before grabbing his lips with my own, my hand immediately on his face while my other wraps around his neck. The sun is shining right above Rolex's house, yet my mind says it's raining. Hard. It feels like it's been a century since the last time I felt so much like rain.

Rolex's lips feel so different then they did months ago. I know why, too. The shame in my eyes has been replaced by fire—burning cold fire. I feel years older, having gotten so many recent compliments from my parents, having worked until I drop dead every day for the past couple of months, and even, having put myself in the mindset to kill. It's not that hard really, when you only have one person worth loving. My confidence is as evident as the pouring rain, and this time, that rain isn't comprised of tears. As we kiss I realize that I'm not all too much shorter than Rolex, at least not as short as I'd thought.

Our lips haven't parted yet and I can't really breathe but that's okay. I don't want to stop. I quickly release my lips though, for just a moment, still a mere couple of millimeters away. “Inside, 'kay?” I whisper, realizing we're standing directly in the open doorway. I guess the only reason I'm actually aware of it is because I don't want anyone to see. I still haven't told anyone in my family about Rolex, and quite honestly, I don't plan to. I press my mouth to his again, closing the door behind us with my foot. Of course, it doesn't happen as gracefully as I expect, and I manage to kick over some glass antique right next to the door instead. I let go of Rolex. “Uh...whoops...Well, so much for Career training.” For a few seconds, I don't really know what to do. Should we get a broom? Should I just leave it? I'd rather not pick up those pieces with bare hands. “So sorry. Really clumsy of me.” I look down at the floor in embarrassment. “On the bright side, we're kind of perfect together,” I say, a joking grin upon my face as I think back to the embarrassed Rolex standing in the doorway.

“It's just...it's just been so long,” I say, resting my head on Rolex's bare chest as I wrap my arms around him, ignoring the broken glass. It's been a week. That's long enough. Then I remember something I'd really wanted to tell him. “I assume you've heard about all of the Moreno-Dahl tension lately. Honestly, it's all just turning into a war, but don't worry, I'm not getting involved. Really not worth it.” It was a blunt lie. “It's been crazy though, which is why I haven't exactly been able to visit much this week.” Now that wasn't a lie, not totally. I just hope he's buying it all. The last thing I need is Rolex running in to babysit me.

ooc -- okay, sorry for the quality of this post. ugh. Ignore the whole rain metaphor because ugh and I wanted to end this post better but I thought we should probably get that convo going soon. But Romry <33

All he could see was her eyes, even as he tried to avoid them because of his embarrassment. They were full of light, laughter and amusement. But there was also something in them that would never let him go, not that he ever wanted her to let him go. It was the same feeling that struck him through the chest like a blade every time he saw her, except it wasn't life that bled from the wound, but a love that he never wanted to fade.

There was still the matter of his pants being undone, and he went about fixing that, doing up the button on his shorts and then working the zipper into a closed position. But as he went to do up his belt, her hand covered his and he paused, breathing hard as the warmth of her hand reached around his own to touch his navel. There would be no way for his blush to fade for the next long while, not with all this going on. "You don't have to," oh the tone of her voice. Perhaps he would just be red like this forever, and then at least he would never look like he was blushing again.

He looked dead into her eyes, then down at her lips as she bit the lower one. In some it might have been a sign of shyness, but something in the way she looked gave off nothing but an air of play and something deeper than that. Something that stunned him and made him swallow hard. Then she moved closer, her eyes on his and something strong in them pulled him close and yet held him fast. Before he knew what she was doing, she had yanked his belt out of his hands and off of his pants entirely, throwing it onto the floor by their feet. It was then that she pressed her lips against his and he almost choked as he gasped at her surprising boldness. Normally she was so shy with things like this, he was almost always the one to initiate a kiss and even then he would only go on for as long as she wanted. But now something had changed. And he liked it.

He placed one hand on the small of her back, and the other on the back of her neck, kissing her back with the same energy that she was portraying. Then she was pulling away from him, and he breathed in the air that he had not known he had needed. She was still right there, within a couple millimeters of his lips and close enough to feel the warmth of her. It wasn't until her quick words that he realized that they were still standing in the doorway to his house, out in the open where anyone could see them. "Inside, 'kay?" Her words were whispered, and a bit rushed. It seemed she had only just remembered where they were too. However, instead of letting him take the couple steps back that would allow her to enter the house, she once again pressed her lips to his, and guided him into his own house. He shut his eyes and felt a wave of something more potent than before flood through him.

He was then startled by a crash and his eyes flew open. Emery had drawn away, just slightly, and he was able to see the shape of one of his mother's glass decorations lying on it's side, part of it cracked and scattering of pieces broken off. "Uh...whoops...Well, so much for Career training." He just felt a lopsided grin break onto his face and shook his head with a light laugh. The colour then drained from his face some as he realized something, and was glad for the moment that she had been distracted by something. He quickly looked around for a book or something, to no avail. "So sorry. Really clumsy of me." This was bad, with her looking down at the floor it might become obvious to her. Nervous that she might notice, he carefully tried to turn away, tried to think up an excuse as to why he had to find a book, or anything really. Lucky for him, she didn't seem to notice. "On the bright side, we're kind of perfect together," the grin on her face worried him, but he could only hope she hadn't realized why he had suddenly gotten awkward.

"It's just...it's just been so long," he tried to keep from freezing or flinching as she placed a hand on his chest, the warmth of which was not making it any easier to hide his situation. He looked once more for something to cover up in vain before she said something that made him momentarily forget about his awkward situation. "I assume you've heard about all of the Moreno-Dahl tension lately. Honestly, it's all just turning into a war, but don't worry, I'm not getting involved. Really not worth it." Something in her face told him this wasn't all true, but he said nothing as she continued, "It's been crazy though, which is why I haven't exactly been able to visit much this week." He coughed, once more in an awkward situation, except now he had two things to deal with, instead of the one that might have been his more pressing problem, if he didn't know how she hated to be 'babysat'. "Well, uh... I had heard that, yes. And I know about the crazy situation, I've been trying to monitor it a bit of late. But as for it being of no concern..." How would he go on from here? Seemed like there was nothing for it, he would just have to up and tell her. "I am siding with the Morenos for the duration of this war." His words were rushed and almost sounded like one long word instead of a string of them. He was sure he was in for it now.

When she hadn't said anything, he looked her in the eye and spoke quietly, but with confidence. "After all, I know you won't be sitting this out." Along with actually having a discussion about this, he was also glad that he was distracting her. Hopefully he won't have to worry about her seeing anything because it would have... settled while they talked. Keep the blush out of your face, just think about what you're saying. ...That can wait for later.
