Looking For Angels {Walking Dead Plot} [Wanderers]

Living in the shadows of the trees, out from under the gaze of the Capitol though the tight choke of their leash never relents, there lives a group of people. Ranging from the ages of eight to fifty-four, they reside outside of Panem in order to protect it. As bounty hunters they make enough money to keep themselves supplied and have a little savings for the future of their children. Their mission; to kill the large animals and mutts that wander the forest and are labeled as dangerous by the Capitol. As well, something they keep quiet, is that they also are given a hit list for fleeing criminals or runaways from the Districts to eliminate so the Capitol doesn't have to waste funds on creating avoxes.

Still, sometimes they funds they get from the Capitol don't cover everything they need to. It's then that they turn to an illegitimate business where they sell furs, meat, or a name on the hit list in order to make ends meet. Without a permanent home they have to rely heavily on their supplies so money is extremely precious, each coin protected and gathered carefully. This also means they have an easy time tracking their targets and are able to take them out efficiently.

Not everything they do is glorious, but they are recognized by the Capitol. With the names of Rick and Shane passed around they have no reason to fear being arrested even while wandering the woods as all except the newest peacekeepers know who they are and what they do. Even so, Rick and Shane continue to hold onto their old papers from when they had become peacekeepers in case the need arises for them to identify themselves. Though, many peacekeepers know their faces and help them to obtain supplies or give them names or mutts to add to the list. Some even pay them to keep the names on the down low, more additions to their illegitimate side that no one ever speaks of.

Still, even with all of the means of identification it has been only luck that has kept the others from being arrested. If they were to be found when not in the presence of Rick or Shane they might easily be mistaken for a regular wanderer and taken to the detention center. So far there have only been close calls, but it's only a matter of time until a slip up is made.

As proof of a successful hunt, they remove the head of their target to present to the person who requested the kill. More often than not it is simply a mutt and they skin it for its pelt or pluck its feathers to sell later. However, when it is a human they make sure to bury the head later, generally with the body. If the mutt is poisonous they burn the body, and later the head if the person who requested the kill doesn't wish to have it. Barbaric as it seems, tradition demands the practice and so it continues. Plus, this way there is no ambiguity about the death of the target - because this group only ever succeeds.

Rick and Shane went into the Peacekeeping business with the same dreams, only Rick had a pure intent. He wanted to make Panem a better place one delinquent at a time and so he trained hard and fought hard, bringing to justice those he believed deserved it. Along the way he fell in love with Lori and on one of his vacations he married her and they had a son together. Before they left Two he rarely saw them. It really was Shane that started convincing Rick that the two of them needed to leave Two in order to “better Panem” and so they left, heading out into the wilderness and travelling around. Rick uses his Peacekeeper connections to occasionally get information on some wanderer or district citizen that needs “taking care of” so he leads the pack and is completely unaware of Shane’s flirting with his wife and how his own son idolizes Shane.

Even in her wildest dreams she never believed that she would somehow end up married to a Peacekeeper and living out in the wilderness as freelance bounty hunters. She’s a bit on the fence as to whether or not she actually enjoys the thrill of hunting (both mutts and humans) but when it comes down to it she’s not afraid to throw knives or strangle anyone that threatens her son. Lori holds mixed feelings about Rick and responds acceptingly toward Shane’s advances, keeping their affair secret from everyone but themselves.

The young boy really hasn’t had much of a chance to live. He attended school and did his best to get good grades, eager to follow in the footsteps of his father, Rick – that was, until he met Shane. Shane was everything he wanted to be: aggressive, authoritative, strong, and had a will of steel. He idolizes the man and is more than willing to do anything to be like him, eager to take up training with weapons and hunting to be able to join the group on missions. Even at the age of nine he is already very rebellious toward his parents and chooses to follow Shane more so than Rick.

Rough ‘n’ ready – Shane’s answer to everything is violence. He doesn’t give two flips about any repercussions it might cause anyone so long as his own ass is safe. He’s an abusive person, verbally and physically, and won’t hesitate to throw his weight around along with a few punches. When Rick isn’t looking he’s usually tossing a few overly flirty comments in Lori’s direction and has made a few advances on her; he keeps a straight face to Rick, however, pretending to be the best friend when really he is hell-bent on plotting his murder so he can take over the group and run things his way.

Daryl Dixon (Onyx?)

Daryl is the firecracker of the Dixon brothers. Hot-headed and yet sensible. Unlike his older brother, Daryl thinks things through and considers consequences that might rebound on himself or someone else. He is a survivalist and knows his way around the wilderness. He does enjoy spending time with his brother, but as all younger siblings stereotypically are they hate living under the wing of an older brother or sister – thus Daryl has a short patience with Merle. Their blood bond is strong but Daryl feels smothered by Merle sometimes, so they frequently butt heads; he loves him all the same, however.

He grew up adoring his little brother, Daryl, loving him with all his heart and yet failing to properly show it. During his childhood it became quite evident that Merle suffered from anger management and was quick to jump to rash decisions and conclusions that usually ended up with someone getting a bloody nose or a screaming match between him and someone else. He, along with Daryl, finds peace in the wilderness and thriving off the land, but sometimes when Daryl says he needs his space Merle takes it the wrong way. He still struggles with properly showing affection to his brother and it usually comes off as harsh and abrasive, but in the end he would literally do anything for his baby brother, even if it means laying down his own life.

A firey girl with dirty blonde hair and blue-gray eyes, she lived with Hershel and the Greenes after the death of her father. Her mother died when she was younger and she never had any siblings. She is stubborn and likes to butt heads with Daryl and Merle, though there is more than just stubbornness between her and Daryl. Determined to take care of herself, she often puts herself in danger so she can attempt to fight her way out of it. She has a hunting knife on her, and survived on her own for a time before being taken in by Hershel.

Being from Three, Glenn never really was able to use his gift of intelligence properly. He excelled in classes during school and was eager to continue any sort of education but found none. He was forced into the mind-numbing job of delivering mail around the district; at first it was fun for him because he tried memorizing the names and addresses but it quickly grew boring. Glenn wanted more, and because of that he slipped over the fence one night. It was terrifying and he quickly retreated back to Three, but curiosity got the better of him and he went to the library to read up on edible plants and shelter building and such, and then he tried another expedition and succeeded. When he joined up with Rick’s group he quickly became attached to Maggie and her wit and sharp tongue, but he believes that she only sees him as a bumbling book nerd.

Dale worked in the oil refineries his entire life until the wealth of a relative fell onto his shoulders. He lived a life of luxury, helping those around him and keeping his wits about him. He saw himself as being more down-to-earth than the other wealthy families of the district and that was the reason he often smiled. Dale has a good sense of judgment and is careful when making big decisions, not rushing to any conclusions like Shane. He’s also one of the two that Rick goes to for advice and support when deciding what missions are deemed reasonable and safe and which ones are not.

This poor boy didn’t really mean to join the group of bounty hunters. One moment he was living happily in Eleven and the next he was in the wilderness, trying to find someone to tag along with. He never meant to just latch onto the group, no; he is his own entity and remains that way. When you get down to it T-Dog is the glue that keeps everyone together and brings an innocent element to the playing field: his hands are clean of anyone’s blood and he’d prefer to stay that way. He’s always willing to help out, though, but ask him to bash someone’s skull in and he’ll hesitate.

Raised in a very abusive family, Carol’s will broke a long time ago. She is quite timid and hesitant toward everything, always keeping her gaze down and never looking anyone in the eye. A few certain terrible things happened to her to make her terrified of men, but ever so slowly she’s regaining her confidence. She adores her daughter Sophia and, like Lori, will do anything and everything to protect her one and only daughter from any kind of threat. Carol tends to be a loner, but often Daryl, Dale, and Hershel have brought her out of her shell enough to hold a small conversation and even smile a few times.

Throughout her life Andrea had been taught that she needed to be tough and void of any and all emotions in order to be a Peacekeeper. She did just that and excelled in her training, showing up boys nearly twice her size and being the top of her class. Andrea even toyed around with the emotions of some of the trainees, breaking them into a vulnerable state and beating them that way. When faced with a moral dilemma, however, she does have a sense of humanity about her. Very rarely does she show it to anyone, though. To everyone in the group Andrea is a stone-hearted girl with a will of steel.

Hershel knows animals inside and out. He was born on the family ranch and he raised his own family there in the same house. He took a side job as a veterinarian and cared for the sick or injured animals of his neighbors. He enjoyed his work so he’s not really sure why he left all that behind and joined Rick’s group. Hershel is also one of the people that Rick goes to for advice on serious problems. He is protective of his daughters Maggie and Beth but he also lets Maggie have her space since she’s nearly full grown. Beth, on the other hand, he holds tightly onto in a caring manner.

Maggie has a sharp tongue to go along with a quick wit. She can pull her own weight on any mission and is not afraid of blood or gore. The adventurous side of her was pleased when her father decided that they would head out into the wilderness and she was the one that led the way, always having to wait for her father and half-sister to catch up. She is fully aware of Glenn’s feelings for her and she finds it rather adorable even though both their strong personalities butt heads constantly.

Like Carl, Beth hardly lived a life back in Ten before leaving for the wilderness. She got along fabulously with her half-sister Maggie and loved helping her father care for animals and work on the farm. Of the two of them, Beth is the compassionate one, more willing to stay still and keep closer to home. She does not like the missions and therefore does not go on them, choosing instead to stay behind and take care of the younger kids. Beth is very truth worthy and doesn’t cause any problem, and she is particularly kind to Carol.
