I. summary: Wisteria Oleander has grown up with a strict, narcissistic mother who has always forced Wisteria and her two siblings into displaying manners at all times. Ms. Ingram, Wisteria's mother, makes new strictures every few weeks. But since Wisteria's father left, Ms. Ingram has not been making any new strictures nor does she do anything but sit in a rocking chair and stare at the wall. Wisteria, like her mother, has been brought down by her father's betrayal, but she doesn't let it get under her skin. Wisteria is determined to have a great senior year of high school, even with all of the sorrow putting a damper on her year.

I. summary: Victory Aubergine comes from a very large family that's full of nothing but Careers or former Careers. She has a twin sister named Glory, whom she is almost exactly alike personality-wise and appearance-wise. The two twins' family is hiding a secret from District Two - the Labyrinth Game. It is a preparation for the Hunger Games and takes place during the victory tour in an underground labyrinth in the woods that the Aubergines constructed three generations ago.

I. summary: Edom Iverly is an aggressive young boy who lacks compassion and lives in District Nine with his mother and little sister, Lapis. After Edom's father died, he was forced to grow up quickly and take care of his family. He is arrogant and cynical and isn't afraid to punch anyone in the face. Edom simply forces himself not to care about hurting people (except for Lapis, who he loves).
