Brick looked up at the ceiling of her room. How long had she been reading? She looked back down at the book that was in her hands and closed it. She had nothing better to do today. She had a day off which was rare in the books. Actually technically a day off never really meant she was off. She just didn't have to go into the office today. She had decided after waking that morning to just lay in bed and pick up where she had left off in her book before sleep. She stretched and moved out of her bed to only stretch again. The book lay on the bed calling to her. She did have to be productive in some fashion today and though finishing a book sounded like the much better option she needed to go into the market before I closed today. it was better to do it before every kid and their mom was running through it. She looked out the small window she had and sighed. It looked as though the world was dead outside. It meant that everyone was at work or doing something else. She shook her head and got into a shower coming out and getting dressed.
Once dressed she pulled her hair back a bit and walked out of the house. She walked down the street smiling at a few of the small children that seemed to have come out of hiding and were playing around. It was so peaceful when the district was like this. Everyone doing their own thing and no one running around. It was their own little piece of haven before school got out and training started and the bussel of the district ruined it all. Still even that had its own strange peace about it. Brick just liked it better this way. She didn't even remotely have to think about prying people apart from a fight and the worst that happened at this time was a skinned knee of a young child falling after playing tag with another. She continued her walk with no signs of being in a hurry at all. It was still early and the older children still had a few hours before being released from the prison that was school.
Brick entered the market place and here there were more people. She walked through the stalls slowly pondering what she might get. There was one thing on her mind and it was rare if she found it. Coffee was not an item on the list of things the district got often. If you were rich enough and has someone bringing you things from the capitol maybe. It was just once in a blue moon that Brick could find it and it never lasted as long as she wanted it to last. She kept walking glancing at the wears of those around her and debating on purchases of the day.
