Kyanite Ruze
Hand in hand, I walk with Vy. It's just like every single day that we leave the house, kiss our babies and drop them off. Today, it's not different than any other day. One difference is that as we walk, I look over and up to Vy, very shyly so she don't notice and can see that sparkle in her eye. Her face is glowing in ways that only happens with pregnancy and I should know. It wasn't that long ago that I was in the same position, but Vy refuses to accept it. She hates the idea that she's expecting a baby from within. So, I don't push the topic at all with her. I just been letting her deal with it slowly with every day. It has only been a week since we found out. I love her more right now, watching her closely. She's taken this unusually good considering but maybe it's the fact that Brooklyn hasn't given her enough alone time to really think about it. Mira has been at my side a lot lately as well and we're being pullled in two different directions.
"Vy, what do you want for supper tonight? Some... cornbread? Soup? I can whip up a good quick soup for tonight, chocked full of vitamins... vegitables. I'll put some protein in it." I tease her. I'm all for eating healthy, but sometimes I do like to give her a hard time about it. I squeeze her hands and then swing them with each one of our steps. "Mira's cutting another tooth again. She had a small fever, but I gave her something to take the edge off. Be glad that Brooklyn already has hers in for now. Mira's been so needy lately but those cuddles!"
I grin and just make a bit of small talk with Vy. She tells me about her students progress but stated something about one of the ones that had to be released from the program due to an injury. Apparently, he came back in the other day complaining and wanting to be trained again. It's a sad way to stop a dream, but if he were to get into the games, then he would only doom himself with death early on.
"Don't worry about it. He'll be fine." I coax her and as we arrive at the center. "I'll see you for lunch, alright love? 11:30?" Parting from her takes a moment longer than normal because I wrap her in a hug, very quickly brushing my hand against her middle as I leave her side and walk away and into the building.
"Hey girls!" My voice rings out with a chipper tune to my fellow healers. Like I do everyday, I start the day off by checking my supplies. I barely even get done making sure things are where they're suppose to be before a young males voice calls out.
"Healer Ruze! Healer Ruze!" His voice is nothing but quivering for some reason and when he makes his entrance into my room, I recognize him immediately.
"Samuel! What's going on? Are you okay?" I feel my heart start to race, expecting him to be hurt, but he looks nothign of the sort. He looks fine, but then that would mean someone else was hurt or sick. Someone was in need of a healer and the boy bends down over his knees taking in several deep breaths as he starts pointing in the direction of the door.
"It's not me. Trainer Pryce... she fell. Some kid was being stupid out in the forest... goofing off and fell. Pryce tried to help him but they're both stuck. She's hurt. You gotta come quick!" My stomach drops. His words about Vy and being hurt no longer makes any sense to me. All I know is that I must go after the one I love. She's being nothing but careless right now, unable to really come to terms with the little one that's developing from within her.
"Take me to her." I practically shout out and Samuel begins to lead the way. I step fast, not allowing anyone to stop me in my tracks, though I heard once or twice concern from another. I match Samuels pace easily. "Where is she at, Samuel?"
"Over here. It was..." He tries to shout. Trees shoot pass me so quickly that I can't imagine how I've become so agile after so long in the office. He suddenly gains another speed. He takes two steps to my one.
"Samuel! Wait up. You're loosing me." My voice bounces off the trees and is instantly lost as he rounds the next tree. My fingers brush up against one of the trees, tearing the hide off my knuckles instantly. I grimace but don't stop in my tracks. Until...
"WATCH OUT!"
I feel my body suddenly drop from under me. My knees giving out for some reason and my body topples to the ground after a short fall and my head connects to something on the ground. A stinging pain sears in my shoulder, peircing with pain. My head is spinning as I try to focus on the world around me but all I can see is vines and leaves. underground twigs of sorts and then a face appearing at the top of the crevice. This time, I don't realize who it is. Some older man, burley and with a beard. Age is definately a factor on his skin due to the wrinkles and there's a wicked smirk on his face.
"Oww..." I grumble moving barely as I roll to my side and my head begins to spin even worse.
"Healer Ruze... Healer Ruze. I guess you'll not be able to go back to work after this. I mean, you depend on your arms to heal your patients, Right? You need to focus on your job, right? Gunna be hard to do it with a concussion - I'm thinking you have? You hit that ground pretty hard. Did you dent it? Ya, know, It would be a shame for someone unqualified like me to tell you that you can no longer do something that you love. You're not much of a healer anyways." The deep voice saunters out with a gentle hum. Not all like it should for someone who was so masculine.
"Yeah. That's her, Dad. What are you going to do now?" He shrugs his shoulders and lays a hand on his son's shoulder, patting it just so.
"Well, we need to make sure she's going to live first. Then you know what to do." He tells him and I blink slowly, letting my stomach settle with the fear residing already. I feel like I'm floating through a bad dream again, and the long hated name is starting to arrive with memories that I would rather forget.
"Samuel. Where's Vy? I thought..." I creak out, looking to Samuel and the only reaction I get is his shoulders shrugging.
"I'll get her later for you. Don't worry." I moan. My body refuses to act when I tell it too but I respond to the stimuli around me. The dirt around me smells unclean. My face feels like its caked in dust. Rocks poke my side. Shooting pain aggrivates my shoulder that's been damaged before.
A thud startles me as a pair of boots land nearly inches away from my face and his old, worn leather shoes smell horribly like they need to be seriously cleaned or thrown out. "Please, don't hurt me." I beg the man. Instead, he quietly lulls me.
"Now don't go worrying you're pretty head, Healer Ruze. I just found you lying here. I'll make sure you are all healed before you go home." A pair of hands pick me up and I'm helpless in his arms and pressed against his chest. The stench of the two day old deodorant hangs heavily around him. A quarry worker he must be to be this strong. The awful feeling of sickness makes me retreat into my mind to try to forget any of this is happening.
