Sneaking out of the house while Lorenzo and Charlotte were at work and told me to stay home to do housework was probably one of the dumbest decisions I'd ever made in my life. I knew for sure that I'd be in a lot of trouble when I got home, and getting in trouble with Lorenzo was one of the worst things that could happen to a person, in my opinion. Regardless, I had already gone through with it, and that meant that there was no turning back. I told my sister, Bliss, where I was going when I left, so that she knew where I was going to be, and then proceeded down the street towards the center of town.
I was people watching as I walked, observing each individual that passed me by. I didn't get out of the house much, so it was always interesting to me to see the different folks that lived near me in the District known as Eight, which I reluctantly called my home. As I went, I was on a bit of a mission. Lorenzo and Charlotte, although wealthy, didn't feed us as much as we really needed to eat. They even made Bliss and I get tesserae each year, only to keep most of the food from it for themselves. That meant that I needed to find something to eat. I'd managed to earn a little bit of money doing some odd jobs around the District when Lorenzo and Charlotte did let me out of the house, and I'd decided to save it up.
Now, I was going to get a special treat or two for Bliss and myself.
I eventually stopped into a small bakery and picked up some bread for each of the two of us and an extra little cupcake for Bliss. After that, realizing that I had a little bit of money left over, I made the decision to get something else for Bliss, too. A gift of some sort. I went into a cute little shop on the street corner, and when I came out of there, I had a little, wooden figurine of a cat as a gift for my sister. I then started to head back to the house, newly purchased items in hand, knowing that I had to get home quickly, before Lorenzo and Charlotte, and hide what had been purchased so that they didn't see it and figure out that I had made a poor decision and had decided to sneak out of the house.
I was in a bit of a rush, so I jogged as I went, only to trip, fall and have the bag of baked goods fall out of my hands, barely managing to hold onto the small box with the wooden cat figurine in it without dropping it.
"No! That's not good!" I exclaim as I try to stand up and retrieve the bag of baked goods to make sure that they're all okay. As I try to stand up, however, I feel a searing pain in my left arm. I think that it might be broken from the way that I landed on it. I manage to push myself up to a sitting position, set the box with Bliss's gift in it beside me, and cradle my left arm with my right.
"Ow, ow ow ow."
I can feel tears forming in my eyes but I won't let them fall. As I see someone walking by, I call out to them.
"Excuse me, can you help me, please?"
Hopefully the stranger is a kind one, willing to aid a person in need.
