The Brooker orphanage, which sits tucked in the most abandoned and overgrown corner of District Three, is often the subject of rumors. It was bad enough that it was started by a girl who had lost most of her family to some form of brutal violence, but it was filled with a ridiculous number of dreamers. The orphans were, in the opinion of most of Three’s citizens, too optimistic for their own good. Within the walls, though, Alex Brooker has determinedly constructed a place where all of her orphans can feel safe and loved. She’s determined to give them a better life than she had. At the Brooker orphanage, a child will never feel unwanted.
TLDR: Context for this plot can be found here, but basically it’s a wholesome orphanage plot strongly based off of Anne With an E. Its aesthetic is cozy, sunny, overgrown, and Victorian. I live for the fluff and cuteness. Application can be found below the character descriptions!
alex brooker, 20 { the caretaker } played by Stare
An old soul trapped in a young body, Alex is determined to make the orphanage a true home for all who occupy it. Although she is hardly a mother-like figure, she keeps things in order and makes sure food is put on the table. As a result, the Brooker Orphanage has become a safe haven for a number of abandoned or orphaned children.
east alexeev, 16 { the dreamer } played by Stare
Bright, bold, and endlessly dreaming, East is without a doubt one of the louder personalities at the orphanage. She loves using big words, reading novels, and make-believing. She can often be found curled up in a corner writing stories of adventures far, far away from a far bleaker reality. Despite the fact that she’s often teased for living in a fantasy world, she strongly sympathizes for others in a way that makes all the other orphans certain they can come to her with any kind of problem. Emotional and perhaps a bit overly dramatic, she fondly imagines that all the other orphans are her real siblings - all except { the doctor }, of course, who she’s taken a decided disliking to.
unclaimed, 17 { the doctor }
After losing both his parents to disease, he’s dedicated himself to studying medicine, spending hours hunched over dusty old books. Alex refuses to let him anywhere near the clinic, convinced that he is destined for greater things at one of the district’s more official hospitals, so most of his practice is limited to setting his fellow orphans’ sprained ankles or patching up scraped knees. Tragedy hasn’t worn away his kindness - open-minded and thoughtful, he’s easily one of the most popular kids at the orphanage. The only exception is East, who he frequently finds himself trying to befriend despite her cool attitude toward him. His endless empathy for others leaves him with a somewhat vulnerable heart, and he often finds himself torn between the wealthy world of medicine that he longs to enter into and the creaky old house where he has always found the very best of company.
unnamed, 17 { the royal } played by Tom
Born and raised in a wealthy family, rules and propriety are all she’s ever known. She was fully expected to live a life of luxury until her parents were abruptly arrested and all of their assets were stripped away. In the orphanage she distracts herself with her love of music, making good use of the dusty old piano, and by spending a good amount of time with East. Though her wealth didn’t affect her sense of loyalty or kindness, she tends to be less open-minded than the other orphans, afraid of new ideas. Despite this, she is also a peacemaker, friends with everybody and always trying to make sure things are going smoothly. If she isn’t adopted, she’s fully expected to be married the moment she leaves the orphanage - her beauty is absolutely unparalleled.
unclaimed, 16 { the artist }
Having been shamed for most of his life by his mother for being more adept at painting than hard labor, being sent to the orphanage was almost a relief. At least there he is slightly more accepted, though often still too shy to share his talents with anyone other than East and { the royal }. With his friends he is comforting but brutally honest when necessary, and often enjoys the silliness he gets to partake in with them since he was never allowed it at home. Still, he remains terrified that he will one day be forced into the factories, a world without the color that he so adores.
unclaimed, 16 { the worker }
Because of their lanky height, their family was able to pass them off as old enough to work in the factories even at a young age, keeping them out of school. When they were caught they were immediately sent to the orphanage, but not before years of work had hardened their hands and toughened them against the world. They’re secretly terrified at how far behind they are in school, feeling stupid and inadequate in comparison to the other orphans. East has taken it upon herself to tutor them, and despite the fact that the two of them often bicker like siblings, their gratitude to her remains unwavering. When they have time, they also like to sit and listen to { the doctor } read aloud from his medical textbooks. They’ve had a crush on { the royal } since the moment they laid eyes on her and take no issue with making those feelings known, though she never takes them seriously.
unclaimed, 14 { the romantic }
Young, bright, and beautiful, she’s a daydreamer with her heart set on a beautiful romance. Despite the fact that her parents and siblings died in a fire she remains endlessly optimistic to the point of coming off a bit silly. She tends not to focus too much on schoolwork, and though her heart is in the right place she tends to focus more on her latest crush than on any possible future. A bit gullible, East and { the royal } find themselves constantly shielding her from the pranks of the other orphans. She brings a certain amount of light and laughter to the orphanage which, despite the fact that no one ever says anything, is greatly appreciated by everyone.
unclaimed, 15 { the softie }
Clumsy but armed with a heart of gold, he has all the best intentions even if he does seem to mess everything up. Alex has stopped letting him help with dishes because of his tendency to break them. Despite all this he acts somewhat as the glue at the orphanage, always willing to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. Being a doorstep baby, passed from house to house for all his life, has made him soft instead of hardening him. Although not the brightest or the smoothest, he is without a doubt the most caring, rivaling even East and { the doctor } with his seemingly endless supply of kindness. (basically he is a golden retriever but in boy form)
joey brooker, 4, npc { the sister }
The baby of the group, Joey is bubbly and full of energy. She can often be found being chased by Alex around the house, out of control and loving absolutely every second of it.name:
